I talked to some of the guys that hang out on Kali Chat. They say that
Warcraft 2 is almost as bad as Doom when running over Kali. Which is to
say it won't work. And all these guys have 28.8k modems and good
connections. Maybe if all the players are on ethernet...

Well I have good news for you, it works *GREAT*, I repeat *GREAT* over
IHHD (internet head to head daemon). I played versus and coop games and
it works *GREAT*. =)

Check out www.blizzard.com. They have a 'fix' to make Kali work better. I don't
have WCII yet, so I can't say whether it fixes anything or not.

Could anyone clue me in? I don't know anything about Kali or IHHD,
but it sounds like somthing I would like to get into. I can see that
they're methods to play head to head on the net, but other than that
I'm clueless.
Thanks John
well, they fixed it already,4-way 28.8 games on Kali now ran as smooth as
single plaer..
Get war2kali.zip from their ftp/www site.

Diddo. Hey, anyone else who needs a lesson on IPX networks,
Kali, and all the rest of that crap that I don't understand either, tack
on a reply to this and maybe, just maybe, someone will be generous enough
to post his wisdom.
Thanks Craig

I picked up the unregistered Kali a while ago and haven't really had a
chance to try it very much, and I could never manage to find the time to
finnish setting up IHHD, but the ipx I think I can help on.
You both have to have a ethernet card(Anywhere from $35 to $200) you
load the first three drivers(lsl.com, the card driver, and ipxodi.com. The
card drivers has different names depending on the card you get. There is a
standard called ne2000 and the card drivers is ne2000.com there are also
many ther choices though.) After you get the cards you need to hook them
togather by the connections in the back. In order to use the one that
looks like a phone jack(RJ-45), you need to buy an ethernet hub. (Cost
$90-$200 area) if you use the one that looks like the TV cable
connection(BNC) you only have to get the cable and terminate both ends.
This means you plug the T type connector into the card connection, the
cable needs to be connected to one side of the top of the T and the
terminator on the other side. If you duplicate this on both sides you have
a two player ipx network, if you connect a BNC cable to both sides of the
middle computer and use terminators on the two ends you have a three
player ipx network and so on. I've got this setup at home with my roomate.
It works great. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop a line.
Hope that helps some.
John.

It's not really that hard to setup but you do need to read ALL the
documentation that comes with it. You will also need the wattcp stack.
This is freely available from ftp://wiretap.spies.com/pub/tsoft/
Again read all the documentation that comes with it. If you still are
confused turn the Web into your resource guide and just find the FAQ's
dealing with these two program suites.
The biggest challenge new users have in setting it up is getting all the
information correct in the wattcp.cfg file. You'll need to know the DNS
server address, whether or not you get a dynamic or static ip address, and
what the gateway address you need to use. All of this info should be
provide by your ISP or the system administrator for your network. If the
ISP won't give it to you dump them, immediately.
It's not impossible, it just requires a little patience to follow the
instructions. Remember there over 5000+ people using it right now so you
can do it too!
Now what we need to see is a version of KALI that works under Win95. Jay
Cotton, are you reading any of this?

Hmmmm... 5000 users @$20/pop... wow! Jay Cotton, I really hope Kali has made
you some good money. You deserve it!

Jay states in the Kali Docs that a Win95 version is "in the works" (but not to
bug him about it). I am really excited about this, but I wonder how it would
work. I assume it would be an installable Network CP component, but if it
presents an IPX interface (which it must), what happens to the existing IPX
driver?
W95 does not provide a way, even with Configurations, to dynamically pick
network components, so I don't see how this works short of
installing/de-installing every time you switch from Kali IPX to "real" IPX.

I have tried the war2kali.zip and yes, it definitely speed up WC2 by a
lot !!!

Wanted to add: you don't need anything special to begin with,
besides a shell account with a good provider and a decent modem.
(SLIP/PPP or ISDN access is fine too, of course).
The documentation for Kali is excellent and walks you through
every detail, including where to get the other stuff you may need.
also, here's Kali's FTP address to get the stuff:
ftp.kali.net
Spend a couple of hours getting it going and you can spend
the rest of your life playing Warcraft or C&C or Descent if
you want to.
