Hi Guys.

Saw SimIsle going cheap at last, and just couldn't resist!

Having spent a few days toying about with the scenarios and being
moderately successful (I think) at the easiest levels, I'm
experiencing some frustration in that I don't know what the goals of
each scenario are. Some are fairly clear - e.g. "get $xx to prevent a
buyout" - but some are very vague - has anyone got details of the
specific targets for each of the islands?

In fact, is there a FAQ around, or any general tips for avoiding
running out of money too quickly? Is it worth spending money on
developing cities before getting a profitable mining or tourist
industry going?

TIA

I don't know if there is a FAQ anywhere, but I have a cheat editor for
it :) You can download the editor at Jerry Moore's SimStuff page:

Yes, there's a great FAQ written by Richard Abbott; cribbing from his .sig:

http://www.dundee.ac.uk/~rjabbott
A slow link -but- garunteed to be the most recent version
http://www.gamesdomain.co.uk/faqs/simisle.html
http://wwwpub.utdallas.edu/~dunk1888/islefaq.html

unfortunately there's no text version I know of; you must click to it.

I always have to spend my initial stake on building some income-generating
stuff. There is no time limit so once you're in the black you're set.
With few exceptions, you can always set up a nice tourist economy and then
turn your attention to other goals. Put in a port, two or 3 hotels on the
beach nearby, and a beach resort for each hotel. Build the size up until
nobody has to wait at the port, build the quality up to 10 or so, and you
have a nice cash cow.

Spending money on cities is NOT a good idea before you're in the black --
towns don't cost a cent, cities are extremely expensive until they get
a lot of infrastructure in place. So leave them towns until you can
afford it. They produce skilled labor, that's about it as far as I know.

SIMISLE FAQ is available from

If you're not adverse to a little cheating while you get the hang of this sim, you
can download a money cheat utility from http://www.vcnet.com/jmoore/simstuff.htm
The program name is ISLEHEX.EXE

Thanks Chris for this and your other comments (and indeed to Richard
who also drew my attention to his work).

I've also had a look at the Maxis Web site (www.maxis.com) which does
actually contain numerous hints for most of the scenarios.

Happy SIMming
