There is a game called "Defend the Alamo" made by Incredible Simulations.
It is sold by HPS (of Tigers on the Prowl fame). Visit their website at
www.hpssims.com to get more info. I have the game and it is ok, but not
great. The biggest disappointment for me was that when the Mexicans charge
the walls, the sim turns into a "real time" simulation. I found it very
tough to keep up with the game. Of course, the Texans probably had the
same problem. You might also be interested in "custer's last command",
also from Incredible and sold by HPS. This is a true turn based simulation
of the battle of the Little Bighorn. What makes it fun is you can
customize the battle in lots of different ways; ie, what if Custer had
brought Gatling guns, or the 7th Cavalry was united, or the 2d Cavalry had
come along, etc. Whatever you decide, enjoy!

I forget the company that produced the "Alamo" game, but they have been
mentioned on various occasions in the magazine, Computer Gaming World.
CGW would probably be your best source for further information. I've
heard the Alamo product is decent, if not flashy. It would seem this
outfit creates such "pocket" games merely out of love for the
hobby...which I admire.

I wonder if the demo is available on the 'net.

I think Age of Rifles has an Alamo scenario. Most of them, though,
probably show the fancified legendary version, as opposed to what
really happened there. (I have never understood why people weren't
satisfied with the actual-factual account, and have needed to invent
this BS about fighting and dying to the last man. It was a brave
fight by all accounts; the truth is certainly good enough to revere.)
Of course, compared to accounts of supposed Revolutionary War heroics,
the public-consumption Alamo story is fairly accurate.

And by the way, the Texians (yes, that's spelled correctly--Texians) in
fact perished to the last soldier, as Santa Anna put all male survivors
(excluding children) to the sword after storming the mission.
