Got a question for fellow fans of Maxis games. I do not have a copy of
SimAnt. I have been wondering if I should get one. I looked in the
latest issue of Computer Gaming World, and noticed an interesting thing
aboutt prices.

SimAnt "Classic" on 3.5" disks runs around $20, while SimAnt "Enhanced"
on CD-ROM is around $35. OK, so what is the difference between "classic"
and "enhanced". Just what is enhanced in the CD-ROM and is it really worth
$15 or should I forget it?

I played SimAnt once. It started getting a bit monotonous, so I set
my gather/dig/scout or whatever buttons and left. I came back two
hours later and had taken over the entire yard and house, and won the
game. I think you could get much more enjoyment by watching real ants
(at least you can interract with them more <stomp>) and it costs much
less :)

I don't know what the enhancements are, but I would not recommend SimAnt.
I love simulation games, I've liked other Maxis products, and I'm
interested in insects, but I still found it uninteresting.

Thank you for the comment. And I wonder, was any hint book/strategy
guide ever published? Probably not, from all the negative reviews of
this game I have received.

I heard the enhanced version was much better as far as learning about ants
goes. Its supposed to have lots of video footage and a talking ant tutor
that tells you all about ants. I think the game engine is the same though.
Im definitely going to get it since Im a hard core ant fan. If you just want
I fun game this is probably not for you. Not much game strategy just
interesting to watch (if you like that sort of thing).
Good Luck,
Drone

Thank you for your response. I have yet to have anyone write back and
say they liked this game. I guess even Maxis can fall on its face.
Maybe that is why no strateegy book was ever published?

The problem with this game is that the ants seem *too* realistic. They
are as smart as ants, which is a great programming feat, but ants are
not known for tactical ability. They seem good at strategic resource
allocation, but I suspect logistics is in their genes, and reflected in
their very society.

I found it cool to watch, but you only watch stuff for so long on the
computer.

I'm pretty sure that a strategy guide was published. Mostly ant information
and stuff, I suspect. It was not a *bad* game at all, just a weak one.
