I loved both Conflict games (Conflict: Middle East, and Conflict: Korea),
but I have not played any other SSI wargames. How about it? Any of you
played more of them? I would like to see your lists posted here in this
newsgroup. Maybe it will help me and other newbies to the wargaming genre
avoid some of the more terrible games. (like Kingdoms of Germany, which I
bought new at CompUSA this summer, and hated) Maybe you could list your
least favorite wargame at the bottom of your statement.

Thanks!

Dan

Games I liked (in no particualr order - not all are available on the PC).

Panzer General
Kamfgruppe
Gettysburg
Antietam
Chickamaugua
War in Russina
Clash of Steel
Computer Ambush
Battles of Napoleon
Storm Across Europe
Tanks

Games I could have done without.

Shiloh
Typhoon of Steel
Stellar Crusade
Red Lightning (I think thats what it was called).
Sons of Liberty
Field of Fire
Panzer Grenadier
Battalion Commander
Wargame Construction Set (the first one).
and several others of which I can't remember the names.

Well met Dan,

The Codex of Ultimate Wisdom caught Daniel Woodard writing:

then thou wouldst also like the precursor to the Conflict games - Red
Lightning, but it has no mouse support

well, I only play CGW award-winning games, and most of the time they are
good, though for WGs, I do make my own selection depending on subject
matter (eg. the Conflict series, Carrier Strike, V for Victory series did
not win any CGW awards)

Good SSI efforts:
War In Russia
Kampfgruppe
Computer Ambush
Cosmic Balance
50 Mission Crush

Really Lame games:
Bismark
Waterloo (just because it's nearly unplayable)

This sucker is nearly unplayable, but is great fun! I'd like to have it
for my PC, I remember playing it for hours on my good old c64! Lazer
Squad is somewhat similar, but not half as good...

: Cosmic Balance
: 50 Mission Crush

Why is no mention made of 1914-1918 The Great War ?
I'm sure it's an SSI game, and I think it's great.
Surely it should rate higher than an old dinosaur
like 50 Mission Crush ! I'd be interested in hearing
anyones view on this game.

PS It may have been marketed elsewhere as History Line,
1914-1918

I had forgotten all about this one. It was pretty good for its time.

I thought Reforger 88 was the best game ever though Kampfgruppe was also
pretty good. Battlegroup was OK but never got into it. Tried to play
Objective: Kursk, but was frustrated with the sheer volume of motorcycle
troops nevt to minefields. Also, War in Russia (the old version) was an
enjoyable two player game (the newer one looks a little steep for new players).

Too bad they never made an IBM version of R88.

Ken

I had the Atari 8 bit version, but it's been awhile since I've played it.
However, I believe it died on me, and I don't have a backup... ouch!
Also, I doubt if it's available anymore.

Although it would be nice if SSI re-did this one. Call it "12 Gun Shootout."

In article <3iu0au$g...@newsbf02.news.aol.com>,

No place for Tanks 1.26? Damn...

:-) I'd put it second, or first if you consider that PG is *not* an
SSI design, but rather a cartridge game conversion (isn't it?).
