I have my first bank in the game now, and valuables are accumulating in
my station and I don't know what to do with them as I have ONLY ONE bank
in the game at the moment (Also the bank is built in a city which has
only about 1500 populations, my game setting is Easy though). I tried to
build cargo bays at different sides of the bank, and send armor trucks to
freight the valuables. Well, they do pick up and drop to the other bay
but NO MONEY PAID!!!
So I guess a bank will not accept its own valuables :(

I was having the same problem and did not want to wait around for
another bank. When shipping by truck failed, I tried by train and was
paid in full. I don't understand why trains get paid and trucks don't.
Maybe distance traveled had something to do with it ( I had to build the
track around the town )
Also, I got my first bank in 1941. Is this normal? Does anyone
know why/how to get banks?

I have the same problem and I tried to use both trucks and trains but
none of them works. Do you mean you have to lay the tracks around the
town long enough so that to generate some income? Sounds silly to me.

You send them to other banks that's all. It won't tell you about
any other banks other than the first one being built though. Take the
gear to the other banks, there will be a few by 1955 or so.

each time a new bank has been built, I've been notified by a newspaper
report. thus, after a while you should have an idea of where you can
transport valuables to/from (unless of course you have the messages
turned off or ignore them).

I haven't seen any pattern though as to where a bank is created. I have a
game going now well into the 1990's and there are a total of three banks
in the whole game. kind of sucks because I can't keep up with one of them
and I regularly have 400-500 bags piled up waiting to be transported.

perhaps someone out there has a game going with a bunch more banks...

Im into 1964 and the second bank was built. The two banks are 3 citys
apart. The only real problem is the location on the banks make it
imposible to build any stations around them now. The only way is by road
way. Which is a LONG route with many rail crossings [and we know trains
dont stop for trucks aready crossing tracks <g>]. It pays ok right now,
but Im going to have try and work some stations in there somehow or else
have many trucks [8-10] moving those goods back and forth.
