Also, is it more efficient to mine as far down as one can go immediately,
or to wait until one level has exhausted itself before proceeding further?
And yes, I'm still playing the game! I decided to give it a second chance
now that they actually are giving me what they advertised on the box, not
to mention an entirely new manual with actually useful instructions.
trucks wear out
keep building them
check your mined resources at the mine if its at 500 units the mine
shuts down and you need more trucks moving
robot commands ... you NEVER have enough
make sure your warehouses are not full because your factories will
back up and shut down
always always always move raw ores to smelters make sure you have
enough they look like they only produce 100 units per turn
later

: why pay for it
Got the patch, unzipped it, and played the new version.
Now I find that its slower than ever. I have a 486DX2-66 8RAM,
is this the reason why its so slow other than that outpost is
a windows-based game? Any remedies to this?
After the 1.5 patch, it has really become unplayable whereas
before it was playbable but w/ tons of bugs in it. *sigh*
You just can't win. :(

By right-clicking on a mine, a menu appears allowing you to assign
routes to trucks (and trucks to mines). NOTE YOU MUST ASSIGN TRUCKS.
They wear out eventually. You must click on the waypoints the truck(s)
will follow to the smelter.
Check your storage tanks to see if they are full. Also check your
smelter to see if it is full. If so, the mine won't bother trucking,
and if IT is full, it shuts down.
HINT: Unload useless ores on the Rebel base via trade. Try to get MPG.
Dont make it too expensive though since i've heard a lot of bad stuff
about the game, and i'm not interested in spending a lot of money for
a possible utter disappointment.
well...

Delete it from your hard drive and accept it as a hard-luck lesson
if you bought the original.

No, but you can always buy a GOOD game. From a reputable company
that includes the features that are described ON THE BOX in the
enclosed game. Let's face it, Sierra dropped the ball on Outpost
and would have been better off having disavowed ITS existence, rather
than try to hem and haw and make excuses, back-pedal some more, then
finally admit that it was "missing a few minor parts."
Colony-building micro-management sims are a dime a dozen, and many of
them are good. Quite a few will even run in Windows/Win95.
>(And Sierra wonders why people like me hasnt bought any more

Their QUEST lines are usually solid, but who really wants to play that
style of game after they've passed the age of 6? Even Phantasmagoria,
which we finished (all seven CDs of it) in 2 days (not even intense
sessions, probably about 10 hours total), is still the same basic game
as the first King's Quest I played on my PCjr..... It just shows you
where Sierra's bread and butter is. The quest games work, and have few
problems. Other games they produce are buggy and problematic. Where
do you think they budget the majority of their resources? Sierra should
stick to what they know (although the reason they expanded was undoubtedly
because the Quest series were slowly losing ground to other styles of games.

Someone offered me 50$ to give me his copy of Outpost...
I refused, of course!
I think it's the first time since Outpost came out that someone said
that Outpost might be an utter disapointment.
Oh, well...
Outpost has certainly become a legend.

>> we really need the 2.0 upgrade
>Maybe a version where one can understand what happens and why it does.
>Tell me if I'm wrong, but the gameplay is quite non-transparent.
You are correct. I'm still figuring out what elements of the game can
actually be seen (somewhat) but have no effect whatsoever. Example:
I'm warned a meteor is about to strike, don't evacuate, and next turn
there's no damage, no dead people, no nothing.
>But maybe in the meantime there is a good documentation available ?
I know there's 2 strategy guides out for this, and the one Sierra
produced is about 2x as expensive as the other, which is just as good
at discussing the game dynamics. Sierra's goes of on history of
spaceflight and future plans and all other sorts of loosely-related
stuff. Interesting reading, though.
