The "Dog" however, killed Tonya with one bite! He ("IT")
leaped and Tonya was dead, mission over (had a save right before I
entered the compound though). Really irked me that Soviet breed
troopers toting rifles could fall like wheat before her but a german
shepard could rip her throat out before she raises an arm. To this
point in the mission, Tonya had about 75% of her health (Soviets got
lucky when I destroyed some of the buildings from the first compound,
they really come out shooting when the buildings go boom).

Joel: The deal with the attack dogs is that they have to get right up
on you in order to kill you. As long as you can see Fido coming, you
can waste him (with any troop, not just Tanya) with a single shot. If
you can't get that shot off, you are DEAD. Also remember that the
riflemen don't have the range that Tanya does, nor the speed that Fido
has. Try Mission 5--you have to sneak 007 into the base past _six_
Fidos. Heh heh, good luck!
And why did Tanya have only 75% health? Let me guess, you toasted
your own medic right at the start with a bad shot at a barrel, right?
CH-CHING!

Reece,
I understand the dogs just fine, I just wanted to rant :). I am
in mission 5 at this point. Here is one you will find amusing that ranks
in the "inattentive" catagory like the original one in this thread.
I had gotten Tanya out, destroyed the SAM sites and my troops
had arrived for the assault on the northern base. I had taken the base
(being careful to leave my engineers by the water) and had no ground troops
left (3 - 4 tanks left, sitting in the compound). I moved the engineers
(all five together as a group) from the edge of the water to the center of
the compound. As the engineers arrived in the compound, I suddenly saw
two dogs appear from the right side. My tanks could not get to them and
were too slow to run over them. I grabbed the engineers but had nowhere
to go with them as the dogs were moving like the wind. Suffice it to say,
the "Hell Hounds" made a quick lunch of my engineer corp and the mission
was over. That makes twice that "Demon Spawn Doggies" have ended a mission
in a matter of seconds for me. :) I thought I had adequately scouted the
area before moving the engineers. What is really nice is that the dogs
came from completely outside the compound and headed straight for my
engineers. That move alone tells me that at least some parts of the AI
have been programmed much better than C&C's.

Mark: Tanya can indeed miss, but it usually only happens when the
target is moving.

Joel: That's a good one! Boy, I'd sure hate to have that happen to
me. The dogs seem to move by patrol patterns in Mission 5, so it's
possible that those two were outside the compound when you got 007
into the truck. Action in the northern half of the map pretty much
freezes while you rescue Tanya. I almost succumbed to a similar fate,
but in my case there were two dogs hiding behind the northwestern
power plant. Fortunately, teeth are no good against an M16...
Anyway, the dogs are supposed to be able to "smell" an enemy at twice
their "sight" distance, so they can be deadly if they can run up and
blindside you.
Sit, Fidoushka, sit! Good dog.
