I upgraded my version of AOD to the W95 version.
IMHO this should be an example of how *not* to port a game to W95.
Everything is there but the problems that I am experiencing are :
1) graphics are *very* slow. I updated my W95 drivers [Matrox Impression+]
and saw noticable improvement but it is still too slow. The main problem
is when the screen is being changed between the various positions
[eg. periscope, maps, command center, etc.] the time it takes to change
the entire screen is several seconds.

2) the user-interface adds the typical pull-down menus -- this is too
cumbersome of a user-interface. I haven't tried the old AOD
hot-keys but I sure hope that they work as I doubt using the pull-downs
or the "Alt-? ?" will be enjoyable.

3) Sound isn't handled very well. When multiple sounds are overlapped one will
usually cut-off the other, sometimes they are blended in, sometimes not.

4) display size is fixed between two dimensions. I don't recall the pixel-dimension
[I assume 640x480 & 1280x960] but you get a choice between 1x & 2x size. The
2x is noticeably slower than the 1x. The 1x is sucky as you get to see all of
your other windows applications in the background.

Anyway -- IMHO you should keep the DOS version

My configuration :
486DX2 with P83 overdrive
64MB RAM
Matrox Impression+ with 2MB VRAM
1024x768x256
SB AWE32

Aces of the Deep Command is NOT a "Designed for Microsoft Windows 95"
program. That's why you had problems with it. The game is a DOS game
that is more tolerant of Windows 95 than other DOS games. Sierra took
the easy way to produce a game for Windows 95.

Get Allied General and you'll see the great benefits of running a
"Designed for Microsoft Windows 95" game.
