You'll need a swift and decisive, well coordinated, initial attack.
(I myself did it a dozen times or so to get it right).
Pack all your knights into 1 transport, and the rest of the footmen and
catapults into another transport.
Group all your ships and transports and head to the SW corner of the map.
(Then comes the part that requires a lot of coordination):
Select all the warships and attack 1 of the towers; unload the 2 transports
to take out the catapults and the other 2 towers.
If you survive this, you're safe. Pack your peasants into the transport and
start building your base (while the rest of them mop up the place).
Build groups of 3 guard towers to pick dragons out of the sky!
Automan
Build the townhall, then the lumber mill, then start to build
the guard towers immediately.

I sent in my attack ships first and dropped my troops on ground to help take
out the towers faster. The destroyers helped to fend off a few dragons from
the east (until they were sunk).

Guard towers help out a lot, but look out for the death mages. The computer
nails me _every_ time :(
Upgrading archers is important too (especially because of the dragons), so
that was on of the first things I did.
One thing to notice is that there is a mini peninsula right above where you
start. I left a ballista there after no more dragons attacked from the east,
and the ballista took out the ogre-mages just lying there.
If you can survive the dragons, then its just a matter of cleaning up.

It takes a lot of time, but it's doable with the resources available.

Nooo, It's easy honest, build lot's of GUARD towers not Cannon towers
as they can't shoot Dragons, once you have a few you'll find they kill
the Dragons long before the Dragons destroy the tower, then have a
Peon ready to repair before the next wave of Dragons appear. Later
when you've developed Mages you can 'pig-em', transform them as soon
as they appear.
The starting spells for mages are good, too. Two 100 spell point fireballs
can take out a dragon. Thats good for slowing 'em down.
