Has anybody else out there got Privateer 2?

It appeared in the shops here (Scotland) last week; I think it's
excellent. It runs fine on my old P90, it's very slick, and delivers on
all the promises (including "being an Elite for the 90s")

I'm finding the escort missions unplayable, though. What always happens
is...

Just as the ship I'm escorting jumps, and just as I press jump, hostiles
appear preventing me from following - and almost immediately I get an e-
mail saying I've failed.

If I jump early, the other ship likewise gets nuked.

And because you can't "save" in space, that means you can't easily try
again.

Any advice?

Thanks

Duncan

Sorry no suggestions except don't take any escort missions or ones that
involve capitol ships. They are just not worth it.

Try targetting the ship you are escorting once all the hostiles have
been killed (give it a number so you can find it fast). Watch its speed,
it will wall just before the ship jumps. If you press J as this happens
then you should jump simultaneously with the ship you are escorting.

I have no problems escorting ships but only have a p 75. It may be that
higher speed computers give you less time to respond to the jump
indicator turning green.

You could also try posting to alt.games.wing-commander where there seem
to be quite a lot of privateer 2 discussions going on.

One thing worth noticing: it even runs fine (much faster then I expected)
on my 486 dx4 100 Mhz (amd) ..

and one suggestion for all of you: go buy it, it's great :)

and then, a little detail question:
in the news buletins you get messages about this rock guy performing on
some planet, I've tried to reach that one in time, but didn't manage to
get there, is there something worth seeing ? is there some kind of
'performance'?

see you

So what is the best freighter run? I'm torn between Bex-Hephaestus and
Karatikus-Janus IV.
Bex is good because you can fill a 1500 capacity freighter with beer,
livestock and lumber. Make
7000 on a run. But the return trip there is no profitable items you can
sell to Bex.

The other run, Karatikus-Janus IV, is good both ways but it involves
illegal goods (lots of fighting
against CIS forces or just running away with a good afterburner to the
planet).
Karatikus you buy: organs, brains, and gems.
Janus IV you buy: guns, solar generators, enviro suits, and comm units.
Thing is you can't buy as much (usually not alot of brains, organs, guns to
fill a huge freighter),
but I still think the profit margin is around 5000 each way. Need to
double check with some more
runs. Anybody else find some good trade routes?

The most profit that I have found is trading Black Market items from
Massanas to Ostina, about 8000 to 10000 per run, only two jumps in a
fairly quiet sector. Made a fortune in relatively short amount of
time, then went off to tour the system in a survivable ship.

Take a left from the spaceport...go three blocks...take another left and
half way down that block you should see the franchise outlet for Igor's
Brains R Us. :) :)

How do you all think it would run on a P75 w/ Win95, 16 megs ram, and SB16?

I've got exactly the same system and it runs OK.

It does slow down noticably if there is a lot going on but it remains
playable - I wouldn't worry if I were you.
