O.K...I FINALLY got this freaking game to install AFTER I reinstalled
Windows. NOW I continually crash at various stages of the beginning of a
game, practice, etc.

All my drivers are up to date, everything is ceritfied, Direct X 7.0a, etc.
What gives with this F*&%$@! game? I've tried EVERYTHING.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My System:

PC Clone, AMD k-6III, 128 Megs of SDRam, Huge freaking HD, Voodoo 3 3000
AGP, Gravis GamePad Pro, 19" CTX Monitor, E-IDE CD-Rom..

had it overclocked to 186mhz!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by accident! with no cooling! i only
overclock it to 176mhz without cooling and it is very stable i cant believe i
overclocked it to 186 that will make me pay more attention however i had the
1.04 drivers and the game failed the test (madden 2001 system test) so i got
the new 1.05 beta drivers and all is well however when i play quake 3 i cant
pick a resolution of 800x600 and the color is allllllllllll messed up i dont
know why even 3dfx cant figure it out if any1 else can i would love the help
also i have the wicked 3d drivers in to play quake 3 but ive uninstalled them
and same bad color problem so i dont know what is going on i would try going
back to direct x 7.0 and see what happens i had alot of problems with direct
7.0a sorry if i wasnt much help and yes i know my typing sucks!

Don't overclock the Voodoo. It's running at 166mhz. The issue here is I can
run every (and I mean EVERY) other game out there nicely, EXCEPT this
one...I am totally frustrated~! Thanls for your thoughts though...

Any other takers???????

You don't mention something I'd be suspicious about, and that's your sound
card. What kind do you have? Also, what OS are you running? 95? 95b? 98?
What other peripheral cards do you have?

Try these two things:

1. end task on EVERYTHING except 'systray' and 'explorer', then run the
game. If it still fails ...

2. pull the sound card (Physically remove it) then run the game. If it still
crashes, then at least you've ruled out the sound card.

Btw, you say you reinstalled windows. how? did you format the drive and
start clean, or just do an 'over-the-top' install. If it's the latter, that
can actually make things worse as all the dirty mess is still left behind.

good luck

Me:

3 com NIC, Sound card is AWE 64 pro (All drivers up to date and certifed).
I have a small LAN in my home gravy training a DSL connection.

Me:

Did this already and reworked it "perminately" with the MSCONFIG utility,
reducing programs in the start tab to systray and explorer.

I'll try this, but I have my doubts that this is it only because everything
I run on this box is fine. Madden system test also confirms no problems
with anything.

Clean install (blech) from scratch with 98se.

Thanks for the help anyway, if you have anything else you can think of and
it works, I'll owe ya one. BTW, some guy e-mailed me attempting to tell me
that it was my processor...LOL. The K-6III 450 I have is rock solid,
trouble-free and is as close as one can get to a P2 450(with slightly better
performance) and the same cache. If Madden doesn't run based on the
processor, then the game goes back.

I doubt it's your processor, but it could be a *combination* of your
processor, sound card, vid-card, NIC, etc, etc. And just because everything
else works great is meaningless, unfortunately. I would still go ahead and
pull all unneccessary cards (sound, NIC, etc), try the game, and then add
cards back one at a time. Actually, that's if you want it bad enough. What
*I* would do is return the game and not fool with it :)

One time I did have a strategy game that absolutely would not work with my
motherboard/CPU combo. Like you, I tried EVERYTHING. When I later traded out
the motherboard, voila, the game worked like a charm. Btw, this is the kind
of crap that will make consoles win out over PC's. Maybe you should just get
a PS2 in October, and get Madden 2001 for that. Or get a Dreamcast, and get
NFL 2001.
