Would I be right in thinking that in the expansion you only get nice
rewards for killing boss monsters once? If I save & exit the game,
reload, kill a boss monster again (e.g. Durial) it drops lame items
the 2nd time.

I don't remember the original Diablo 2 working this way?

Or am I imagining things?

I guess it is cheating really ....

No, it's not cheating--while it's not necessary either, actually, it's about
the only way to collect some of the best equipment unless you're just
exceptionally lucky.

Duriel, BTW, generally drops lame items the *first* time. Some bosses like
Mephisto, Eldritch and Pindleskin are still worth hitting up regularly,
although with the new 1.10 patch you're generally better off running some
specific areas like "The Pit" in Act 1 and "Ancient Tunnels" in Act 2 for
"magic finding".

Diablo 2 works now the way it always has, generally speaking.

Check out either alt.games.diablo or alt.games.diablo2 for plenty of people
who can help answer most all your questions.

If you need to email, then chainbreaker (naturally) at comcast dot
net--that's "net" not "com"--should do it.

Good advice. I just wanted to say, I have read a "rumor" that on 1.10
the FIRST time you kill any boss / unique monster, it has a higher drop
rate than in subsequent kills. But I'm not sure about that. However,
I still play Diablo II (online) from time to time and when I do I do pit
runs,
but also go after Andariel, Mephisto, Pindleskin and Baal (Hell difficulty)
because they are known to be good droppers. They have all dropped
great stuff for me in the past. Sometimes it can take many, many runs
before you see anything worthwhile.

It's not a rumour, that's what Blizzard claimed (part of the 1.10
changes). However, I can't really confirm it. I've had as many good
first-time drops as I had crappy first-time drops. Mephisto in
particular seems to drop as inconsitently (but on average decently) as
he always did.

I second CB's invitation to alt.games.diablo2. It's a really friendly
group with a good info/noise ratio.
