I just got the skill. I have a knight with some extra skill points. I
ran his skill up to 20 in a saved game.
I did not expert or master his skill. I only did some trial shooting on
the mechanical guardians in the control room. The blasters dont seem to
do much damage, I could do better with a water pistol.
Will they do more damage to fleshy creatures or should I just pass on
the blasters.

Anyone doing a lot of damage with these blasters or what?

I don't think that you need to put any skill points to
qualify for expert or master. From the text, the teacher
doesn't say anything about minimum skil requirement.
So, think of it as a free skill. It's not very useful,
compared to spells. But versus bows, blasters aren't
something to sneer at. I only use it to complete the
last dungeon in real time. For those long corridors
with lots of space to run backward, going real-time and
firing blasters at max rate sure is a time saver. It
took me about an hour to go through the last dungeon
in real time. I suspect that it'd have taken me twice
that amount if I don't have blasters. I doubt their utility
in outdoors situations though.

They do a fixed amount of damage unfortunately. Balancing
that with 3 or 4 times the normal firing rate of bows.
It isn't all that bad.

It's the same as the other weapons, actually. The teachers don't say
anything about it, but they also won't teach you unless you have 4 or
8 skill in blasters. It's a bit confusing.

They worked great for me for clearing out Paradise Valley! Stay in
realtime. Once you hit a Titan he gets stuck in pain animations and
all your shots hit. Stay far enough a way and keep moving and you can
take him out in a few seconds with no retribution from him (watch out
for his buddies who try to circle behind you, though!). Same story
with dragons.

In the control center. Personally, I found my master bowmen (all my characters
have master bow) do much more damage than my blaster masters. The blasters are
cute, but unnecessary. (BTW, you do NOT need them, contrary to what the oracle
says)
