Does anyone know where i can get a character editor for pools of
darkness? i hate it when my only mage gets turned to stone.. i have to
go back to my last saved game and that gets annoying really quick.

Which brings me to my other point, has anyone else noticed the MAJOR
bug of multi-class advancement? I have a fighter/mage who's stuck at
8/8 even though he should be at least 15/15 or something like that.
Anyone know of a fix for this?

You are playing pools of darkness with only one mage and are hoping to win ?
Good Luck :-)

Is he perhaps an elf or half-elf ? They cannot advance that high !
(He must be, or he could not be fighter/mage)
I hope you were joking, or else RTFM !!!

SPOILER

An unrelated question: I'm at the final battle against the THIRTY
unpleasant beasties, then the 10 beholders, then lose magic and
fight Gothmenes.. :) Has anybody won all 3 of those linked battles
on Champion (highest) level? I've won the first battle once, and had
one character left. He then got wiped by the beholders. I've tried
this fight 15 times on Champion level, with only that "success". 2 or
3 times all my characters have died in the first round!!! Bummer! :)

I would say this is by far the hardest battle (group of battles) in
any of the FR games..

BTW, I do cast prayers, mirror images, globe of invulnerabilities for
mages, and haste before battle..Party consists of 38th lev Cleric,
37th fighter, 29th paladin, 31st ranger, 28th mage, 24th mage.

Yes, I did get the crystal and successfully repel half Gothmene's
creatures.

In future read the documentation that comes with the games. Level restrictions
by race are comprehensively covered, and you'd have known this and not wasted
resources asking such a pathetic question on the net if you'd damned well read
it.

Hey Nige, it's real easy to be an asshole when your safe behind a computer,
isn't it? The guy asked a question, and if it bothered you, keep it to
yourself AND DON'T WASTE BANDWIDTH YOURSELF!!!!! The guy dosen't have
a fetish for readin every page of the manuals like you do, cause maybe he has a life,
so ignore it and go on in the future. The net dosen't need losers like you.

p.s. I didn't e-mail this to piss you off about bandwidth. waste waste waste!

Perhaps I didn't fully explain the bug. I was creating characters
whose initial levels were not set correctly. Also, they would advance
erratically and almost never turn purple indicating they were ready to
level. I "damed well" read the documentation so i KNEW this was a
bug. I am assuming by your response that you have not encountered
this. Thank you for letting me know that you can't help me at all.

If this is the case then you have my sincerest apologies. Although when
asking for information it's usually better to give as many details as possible,
like what factors led to to suspect a bug in the first place.
Anyway, once again my sincerest apologies for flaming you when you were
obviously in trouble with a faulty copy. I would write to you personally
Derek, but as you know I can't.

Nige.

P.S. My POD doesn't have this fault so I assume your's is an isolated case, so
what would happen if you tried to take it back and get a properly working
copy?

Yup, this is definitly one drawback to being multi-classed. A couple
things I have found that work well are:
1) Dual Class - start a human out as a fighter and
then change it to a mage when around 7th level or above.
when the mage passes the fighters level you end up
with a mage that has the thac0 of a 7th level fighter,
is capable of using any weapon (a mage that can swing
a two-handed sword is really cool) and can attack
3 times every two rounds. You still can't wear
armor, but I have usually found enough bracers of defense
and rings of protection that it really doesn't matter.
This option may require going back and replaying
one of the earlier games in the series in order to work
a character up this way, but I find it worthwhile
2)If you must play multiclass, play a tripleclass. An
elven fighter/mage/thief isn't to bad - they will
always go up as a thief and don't top off as a mage
until they reach 11th level. I wouldn't recommend
having more than one character like this though.

If you are really desparate to get your current multiclass character
up to a reasonable level, get your hands on one of the character
editors, change your race to human and go to a training ground.
You will find that you are still considered a multi-class and
you will be allowed to go up to whatever level for which you
have the experience. As long as you are human you will be
unable to wear armor and cast spells at the same time, but
you can go ahead and change your character back after training
him up to the level you want.

This is, of course, cheating, but that is why I listed the legal options
first.

As to the character classes, they are VERY VERY easy to change.

*** SPOILER, CHEATERS WARNING ***
*** IF YOU DON'T CHEAT, DO NOT READ ***

Alright, now, first of all, ever wanted to be a fighter, mage, cleric, ranger, thief etc... (ie. ALL the classes)

Well, now you can. It is a simple hex fix is all you need.

If you REALLY wish to cheat in this manner, or you wish to give yourself
ANY spell in the game... just send me E-mail. I previously posted a list of
spells for ALL AD&D games, which you may not have seen, which listed the hex
values for each spell! It works with all games. For example, using this method,
you could make a 1st level mage know, oh, about 30 meteor swarms!!! Also, since
it has automatic rememorization of cast spells, you can even MEMORIZE 30
meteor swarms AFTER you cast them. If you are interested in cheating this, and
any other RPG game, just give me a buzz at br...@seas.gwu.edu ....

Bye.
