Two questions:

(1) Okay, I give--just how do you go about defeating the Evil Wizard
Construct? I keep getting blasted by the Mechanus Cannon spell, but I've
seen it (and been killed by it) several times now and would like to move on
with the game.

(2) Where is Nordrom? I assume he's got to be in the maze somewhere.
Is he a benefit of defeating the Evil Wizard?

Thanks in advance.

1)

Hit and run worked for me. I had my fighters/thief attack the closest
large constructs while my priest/mage fired lighting bolts, magic...,
etc..,, at the evil mage. Even so..., it took several returns to his
lair (and ALOT of deaths) before I defeated HIM and his minions.
Part of the spoils is his Mechanus Cannon spell. Unfortunately my
mage is not high enough in level to copy it into his spell book, yet.
(level 8)

2) Defeating the evil mage was a HECK of alot easier than finding this
Nordrom gaget. I've searched ALL day and still haven't found him.
I've been using the "add a note" feature to mark my progress on the
dungeon map. I HOPE the thing is worth it. I'm TOO far in the game
to go back and get this Ingus guy.

I killed the evil construct before he cast any spells, I just sent Morte
after him and Morte's constant hits disrupted everything he tried to cast, I
used Chain Lightning Storm and Desert Hell to take out all the constructs.
Nordom is not the benefit of beating the mage, he is in the maze, I mapped
the whole maze out, and found Nordom 1 down, 1 right, 4 down, 1 left from
the mages room.

The maze is random each time.

Heh, try this. Go in, as soon as the dialog ends get out. The next
time you enter, no more Mechanus Cannon. Don't rest in between
though, the evil wizard has 1 slot of the cannon and if you rest,
or mebbe leave the dungeon, he re-memorize the dang spell.

IMHO, the cannon looks more scary than it is. I never get hit for
more than 50HP. if I make the save it's usually half that. The
high threat constructs are more of a danger actually. So, the
first order of business is to put them away quickly. Tough it
out when it comes to wizard's spells.

No, you can get him without having to kill the wizard. I believe
that you may need to kill the wizard to unlock Nordom's upgrade
though. IMHO, the wizard fight is one of the most entertaining
fight in this game. =)

And therein lies a minor glitch in the game. The spell's description has a
conflict- On the one hand, in the capsule description at the beginning, it
says 'Save:1/2', indicating tha t asave results in half damage. On the other
hand, in the body of the spell's description, it says that the spell deals
out 30-90 points of damage with no save (I'm assuming it is (1d7+2)*10
rather than 30d3, but who knows).

Not likely. If it's 10d7+20, you will only see 30, 40, ..., 90.
That's not the case. I think 30d3 is probably it. BTW, I've never
seen damage above 60, most of the time less than 30 thanks to
spell save. And I've seen a lot of Machanus Cannon, I eat
Evil Wizard Construct for breakfast. What can we tell? 50+ happens
to be the mean. If it's a huge number of rolls of few-sided dies,
you will see the average most of the time. This is indeed what
happens with the cannon damage.
