The only documentation is text file transcriptions of the original
manuals.
There will be a desciption of a procedure and then a statement that says
"see the diagram below"... THERE'S NO DIAGRAM! It's a text file!
I've tried all sorts of combinations of using the Inspect function and
pushing
buttons, but all I seem to do is kill my party members in new and painful
ways!
I've tried looking for webpages and I've got the FAQ, but there is little
discussion of the chests.
If someone could help I would appreciate it!
Thanks! haggis

Thereare several ways. The easiest is the Knock-Knock
spell or the knock-knock scroll.
Yhe other way is to disarm the trap. Click on the the
lock symbol at the bottom right side (not the very
bottom). choose the spell here or choose pick lock.
Scroll though the traps on inspect the * mean it is in
the is one a ? means it might be. AT best this isn't
very good.

OK: to open chests:
1) you may have to select the character you want to do the disarming (it has
been a while since I played this)
2) click and HOLD the inspect button. This will give you a display
something like this: -?-* in the 2x4 window. This is the information
*???
you got on inspection. the eight positions correspond to the 8 disarm
buttons. a '-' means that trap component is not in the chest. a '*' means
it is. a '?' means you don't know.
3) look at your trap list. each trap has a grid like this: -1-3.
--2-
This is the order of disarming. For instance, if the trap you are viewing
had this notation, then you need to disarm it 2nd button in the first row,
then the 3rd in the bottom row, then the lasst in the first row.
4) find a trap that is possible for what you inspected. In this example,
the trap i described in (3) cannot be the trap inspected in (2), since (2)
say the first part on the second row is definitely in the trap!
Hopefully, only one trap is possible. Remember, you can always back out and
try again, or if you saved the game before attempting to open it, you can
try one, and reload if necessary.
5) when you've decided on a disarming procedure, follow the instructions,
and hope you are right!
Note the red/yellw/green light that's flashing. if it is red when you click
on inspect or a trap part, the trap will go off, even if you are disarming
the correct part! if it is green, it won't,
and if it is yellow it won't go off, but you will have to make another
attempt at disarming that part, if you were disarming the trap.
If you succeed in one part, the button will stay pressed (so you don't have
to wonder if you got a green light or a yellow one)
If you attempt to disarm a part that is not next in the sequence, you will
almost always set off the trap. Note also that some chests have no trap.
Hope this is detailed enough for you!
