I took a sneak peak at the editor for this thing, and it didn't give
me a good feeling. Forget having the fun I used to get designing
Unlimited Adventures modules. The editor looks more like UnrealEd.
I'm sure there's alot of C++ style scripting in there to work through.
Freedom Force was RPG of the Year material. It should have gotten
the award. What a great game. I'm not even a big comic fan, but that
game blew me away with the presentation, action, and the story. Or
how about Morrowind? Certainly more deserving.
I've got Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2, and somehow it
managed to be alot more fun than NWN. The combat is fast, the
dialogue is all spoken. The graphics even look better, even though
the resolution is lower.

As many before you (in this group) it sounds as though you are rating the
game from a single player standpoint. And you have even more
dissapointments coming. You cannot build a party. You can only hire one
npc at a time. You cannot give them direct detailed orders such as
getting them to walk in front of you.
However, be glad that you are jumping in this late since the online view
will make things quite clear now why so much of the game is as you
describe. It is built around multiple human players, user created modules
which are DM'd by players, and effecient use of multiple home systems in
playing the game without having to have a central server that users pay
to get access to.
Still not sure if it should have won that title but its earnings and
awards are definetly based on what it has become, NOT what came in the
box.

That's because there's almost no dialogue "to speak of".
anyways i agree that NWN on its own is pretty much lame. I didnt even try to
finish Chapter 1 of the Official Campaign cause it sucked so bad. The RPing
is pretty much laid out for you, and yes the combat can become somewhat D2
like at times.. But all this changed when i got onto a multiplayer server.
Now there was the huge difference. You could form parties and such and meet
diverse characters greatly RPed. Now this was what RPing is all about,
interacting with other characters who has a brain like yourself and not just
scripted dialogue. you could form guilds, create your own faction, and even
make enemies with other characters in the DnD fashion. Combat also becomes
entirely different with most ppl out there looking out for their own backs
and interest, thus the need to find and party with trustworthy companions.
but enough of my ramblings, just try out a PW (permanent world) server and
see how it works out..

Tough criticism, but at least you don't seem to be doing the typical 'NWN
sux' trolling ;-)

You had me at FF...you lost me at MW (bletch!).
Must pick up a cheap copy of FF - been eyeing it off for over 6
months...aong with Deus Ex (yeah, yeah, I know!)...

But you had to turn to the dark "third place" side to play it, tsk, tsk! ;-)

Prior to the release of NWN, I read a lot of information about it,
especially the points you just mentioned about it being a computerised
gaming system rather than traditional CRPG.
Based on that knowledge, I gave it a pass because I don't have the
time and schedule to play in an MP RPG, appealing as it sounded. It
seems to me that the game being sold as single player product is
simply being misrepresented.
I got a kick out of this. I didn't realize that Lord Marcus Dracon had
renamed himself (again). I'm playing one of Lord Marcus' favorite
games of all times: Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny. I believe
LMD wrote a simple walkthrough for it. I sure miss all the Pathesda
references from the Daggerfall days though. I must read more of
"Nostromo's" posts to see if the writing style is the same. Are they
the same dude?
Idiot. I played Daggerfall long enough (many days) until I realised what I
was doing & said to myself "WTF?". And after looking *very closely* at
reviews & descriptions of MW's mechanics/play functionality/etc, realised it
was just a DF in sheep's clothing, albeit with hand-made environment/levels
- not enough to overcome the atrocious learning/difficulty curve nor the
ridiculous self-training "whack the side of a barn for 2 days" skill
improvement method. I come from a D&D background. Nuff said?
As for thinking I'm anyone other than myself, I have only one thing to say
to you: BBBEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHEEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!! :-p

I fell into the same trap first time round.
After a while, though, I realised the game is so friggin' HUGE that
you can ignore the cheats and just play, and accept your advances when
they happen.

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes !
They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses !
And what's with all the carrots ?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway ?
Bunnies ! Bunnies ! It must be BUNNIES !
Imho NWN was much, much better. I found morrowind rather boring after a few
days. The game is *far* too easy and the rewards for the different subquests
are below par.
NWN is the game i enjoyed most; it would have been my choice too

Absolutely. Given how ludicrously overpowered you naturally become without
making any conscious effort to work on your skills, I pity the fool that
spends 2 days whacking the side of a barn. :-)
Cheers!
David...
One of the things I am struck by when playing NWN, is how hard it is to gain
exp and gold. I thought it would be much easier when I bought the game. Not
that it's a bad thing, but it does make life as a low-level character
difficult on the online servers unless you're adventuring in a group.

Ahh... now I see where you got all those 'facts' you mentioned before.
You pulled them out of Exitium's ass.
In fact, 90% of your contribution to this forum has been nothing but
the echos of that thread. Fascinating.
how's it going?
Whats the matter, mad that someone hates your little fantasy land?
