I got the key but never found any door that required it. I thought I went
through evry part of the sewers.

I suspect that while the "treasure" room is not an easter egg,
the key to it is. According to George, you can pick any grate
in the sewer at random and click on it. You have up to 10
trials to pick up a key. If you don't get the key before your
alloted 10 trials are up, you'll have to wait 2 years for the
dungeon to respawn. In other words, getting that key is
freakishly random. From what I've heard, it's not a big deal.
If you're in the vicinity and want to try your luck, go
ahead, pick a grate and click on it 10 times. If you're
lucky enough (has nothing to do with Luck stat, BTW), you'll
get a key. Else, come back and try again in 2 years.
Later...

Close. :)
You have 12 chances to get it.
Of course, if you get the patch that came out today you'll getit on the
first try every time.

I just ran around and clicked on a grate until it popped up for me. Didn't
have to click more than once.
