Go to the items section, it has a complete list off all item, including
gadgets, components and where to find them.

As an addendum, I don´t know about Madras (I hate it that the NPCs don´t go
everywhere so I only took RFS) but gadgeteers absolutely rock. I´m level
15ish and she shoots 6 times per round for blind and knockout. In the early
levels the lightning rod is often a sure kill for wounded enemies and even
in Trynton you already get the Lava Lamp which is very cool and later on the
PotoPotty that casts noxious fumes, quite nasty. Add useful stuff such as
searchlight (detect secret, useful as I have no ranger and search mode
doesn´t find half the hidden items), X-Ray scanner and you have a winner.
Just found the Vaporizer and got three instant kills the first three times I
used it... ;)
I´ve been pushing speed and dex and now vitality and I can use items 3-4
times at strength 6-7 during combat before I need a fuel-up stamina spell.
Now if you compare those 14 SP to the ones you need for 4 Noxious Fumes at
strength 7... ;)
I guess item wise the gadgeteer and the bard are relatively equal (didn´t
play a bard beyond Trynton) but the gadgeteer is awesome on the offence with
his omnigun.

I love the X-Ray Scanner - I never realised how incredibly useful X-Ray is
until I could cast it for free. My other two favourites are the Invigorator
Belt and Regenerating Stone - using the belt on my warriors and periodically
topping up health during combat have won me countless battles now.

My Gadgeteer doesn't seem to do great with offensive gadgets - they always
seem to cast a little too low level. I haven't had a kill with the VapoRiser
or NegatAir, though she is effective with the Microwave Gun.

The advantage of having a Gadgeteer over a Bard is that if you don't have a
Bard, you can sell instruments for loads of money, but if you don't have a
Gadgeteer, you can't combine the gadget components, therefore can't sell
them for a high price.

* Ah. Mind-taxing time again.
I got it first as a spell and used it constantly, running low on spellpoints
all the time but what the heck. Haven´t found the others yet, have to
finish reading Game of Thrones first... ;)

Hmm... Let´s see, depends a lot on immunities I guess, against the water
monsters it was good. But my favourite is still the potty... ;)

Never really had money problems but sounds valid. come to think of it, maybe
that´s why I never had a money problem! ;)

Gadgeteer is indeed like an offense-oriented bard. They kick some butt lateron,
with Microwave Blaster and Water Hose (sp), and shooting quarrels/stones for
x4 twice a round, with all sorts of nifty special attacks to them.
Bards, however, are more useful earlier in the game for crowd control and
cone/group effect instruments, and very useful with some cool instruments
that cast Haste and free Heal All, as well as some offensive stuff like
Nuclear Blast (grin).
And, of course, the all-important tip to new players: make both your bard
and your gadgeteer *female*..
Duh -- okie, I think I heard that before, but unfortunately, I still made a
"he".
Anyway, so far, I've only got the Stamina Regen thing that is female-only.
(which is good, but I don't think it will help *that* much -- +1 won't do
much against lightning rod drain, need Stamina(2) each turn!).
Is there something out there that is Gadgeteer-Female-only?
(spoiler accepted)
Automan
It´s pretty handy even in combat as you can often get back on your feet
after passing out in the same turn or latest next and go for another use,
doesn´t matter how low your stamina is as long as it´s positive... ;)
Also it regenerates *a lot* faster between fights, most of the time it
shouldn´t be much of a problem though.

Nothing for me so far.

You can wear 2 of them you know..

Same thing, as useful for gadgeteers..
Not to mention Magic Screen and Bless. Saves the divine mana for Soul
Shield, enchanted blade and emergency healing during combat. :-)
