I just tried to kill about a million rats ( a job ) in
a cave. I gather I'm suppose to pick up slabs and
block their tunnels. Impossible at easy setting,
so I quit.

Then I tried to buy a bow from a Merchant. I did,
but I can't find it in my junk lists. Also, I can't find
how much gold I have .. nor can I trade for the bow.
What's the secret ? I have the Oblivion users
manual. It doesn't seem to help much, or it is
just vague at best. There's a bunch of icons at
the bottom of the screen. Anyway to access
that ? I don't see numbers like Gothic3.

Have about 400 experience points and 10 learning
points. ??? So ???

You just grab them with the mouse and move them.

Money is listed on the inventory screen like usual.

There should be a book in your inventory (My Diary) that explains this.

Johns.
It might be your expecting Nehrim controls & Inventory system
to work just like Oblivion.
They have made quite a number of differences.
Best read though Nehrim Manual.

I got message the block was too heavy. I could kick
it around, but it would bounce away so I could not
place it accurately.

No problem there. I found a gate a few yards away
with free bow and arrows ?? I guess the Merchant
was a fake ... Nehrim site says that might happen??

> > how much gold I have ..

I did find gold in the lists at F2 .. not much. I need
to trade for some I guess.

The bow is another matter. It is too slow to get to.
I have to hit F2, and click on both the bow and
arrows to enable them. Seems to be no quick
selection for needed weapons. I think that strip
of icons on the screen may allow that, but so far
I have not been able to access it. It is useless.

Also, I have reached a guarded gate I can't get
through. I think I'm in the wrong place for this
point in the game ??? Probably need to look
at a map .. maybe find my goal for now ???

I've been using some points, but not much effect
right now.

Really need a manual, but don't see one at Nehrim.de.

I can' sure see that. Do you know where I can
download a Nehrim manual ?

Yes

Not impossible at all. Make sure you pick up appropriate blocks...

Can you read? Try TAB (for Menu) and go from there, with appropraite
icon recognition and mouse clicks. I'm sure you can figure out the
symbol for your gold holding..... In the periphery of your inventory
screen. Looks like a coin and there is a number beside it.

Since the manual was originally published, there are additional very
useful instant access keys F1 thru F4. I believe all the keyboard
updates may be documented in the readme present in the Oblivion folder
after the latest Oblivion patch..... which is REQUIRED to run Nehrim
properly.

The inventory system in Nehrim has an extra embellishment over
Oblivion to help compress it visually. Each of the DARK blue circles
in the Player Inventory is a folder of like inventory types. Clicking
on one expands the contained inventory to the right of the button;
clicking again hides the inventory. The graphic on each dark blue
button hints at the content type.

(The mod is based on the assumption that you have played Oblivion
already at some time in the past and do not need an embedded
tutorial...... )

Mouse clicks?

There is one block for each rat hole and they are near the hole. Just
just click on them and drag them towards the hole. Don't put them into
your inventory.

Well, JL .. once again I try to make sense of what you
say, and it makes no sense. The icons at the bottom
of the screen cannot be clicked on. If there is a way
to quick-load the bow, it is not obvious.

There seems to be no way to pick up the stones.
I've tried every single key and mouse button, and
they cannot be picked up and carried. They can
only be pushed, and they are located too far away
from the holes to get there in time .. before the rats
kill my character ... and I'm set to the easiest
level ???? Not only that, while the rats are
attacking, I cannot move. I am stun-locked exactly
like G3 was originally. The rat quest is nearly
impossible, plus it quickly crashes the system
if too many rats load up ... and then it autosaves
right in the middle so you can't reset and clear
all the memory leaks.

I'm also trying to trade all the junk I've picked up
with Heinrich, the Trader. I see no dual screen
that would indicate trading of any kind. I've clicked
all over that, and there is just no way. I have the
original Oblivion manual. It is worthless. I have no
other mods loaded, so it should be somewhat the
same ??? Nope.

Nehrim is great, generally not confusing in my view and very well
done.

To pick up and drag items on the game screen (not in the inventory
screen) highlight the item as if you were going to interact with it --
i.e. put the the item in the center of your screen and get close to it
-- and hold down the z key on your keyboard, then move your character
such as left, right, forward, and backward (while still holding down
the z key) as you carry the item.

For: johns (the OP),

I am so glad that NF...@aol.com has finally set you right in this
posting with his so-lucid explanation..

I am so sorry I assumed reasonable comprehension in my earlier reply
to you. You clearly stated earlier that you had the Oblivion manual...
Right there on the back cover is a big picture of the Gameplay
Controls. See that one that says "Grab". I assumed that you would
have experimented with this control and figured out how to use it
properly in the game. Yes, indeed there are far more intuitive ways
in other games for picking up items and placing them elsewhere, but
hey, learning the 'Oblivion way' is not exactly rocket science.

btw, did you look at the Oblivion installed readme? It may contain a
complete list of the latest control iterations....

Also the Oblivion Nexus forum probably have lots of FAQs on Oblivion
gameplay.

I keep on forgetting that Gothic 3 is the only RPG that you have every
played....

I would suggest that you keep well away from military role-playing
games like ARMA2. The multiple key-sets used there might overheat your
brain and cause your head to explode...
