Hi everyone,

I've been trying my best to play as a person of high morals, and my
alignment is something like 97, and yet I'm having problems with my
followers. Currently I've got Virgil, Sogg, Magnus and Jayna with me.

The last thing I did was fight a large number of kites in the dwarven mines.
It was a really easy but big battle. At the end, everyone lost at least 5
Reaction points. I tried it a couple of times. The first time Magnus told me
he was beginning to like me less and less, and the second time he lost even
more points and simply left the party. My NPCs have lost points like this
once before, without me even noticing why.

What's the problem here? Are they upset I killed a lot of kites? What did
they expect me to do, read the a bedtime story? They attacked us, for god's
sake! They killed a whole lot more themselves than I did (I like to save
bullets during easy fights, as my followers are more than capable of doing
most of the work). Is it because I tend not to fight as much as they do,
again to save bullets? Come on, I do it all the time, and they never minded
before. What other reason can there be? I mean, why did they lose Reaction
points during this fight? It doesn't make any sense.

I can understand when the lose respect for obvious reasons, like doing
evil/illegal things or killing innocent people/creatures, like when Magnus
gets upset when I try to take care of the wild pigs in the halfling's
garden. I mean, it's annoying, but at least I know that Magnus (and Jayna,
for that matter) gets upset because he feels we're killing creatures that
don't deserve to die. But I find it very insulting when my NPCs lose respect
for me and I'm not even told why. My alignment is up the roof, I do all I
can to do good deeds, I don't kill the innocent, what more do they expect of
me? How am I supposed to get through this without killing enemies (assuming
that's their problem)? This is really upsetting me, because I'm going to
lose all my followers without even knowing why. It might even ruin the whole
game for me.

Thank you for any replies to this message.

It's a bug caused by the kites' arrows missing you and hitting your
followers and getting counted as friendly fire. It's been fixed in the
latest (1.0.7.4) patch.

That's odd, I installed that patch and was pretty sure it was working ok.
I'll admit I installed the patch after starting playing, but a few things
really did change, so I pretty much assumed it worked. Otherwise that kite
thing does sound like a possible cause for my problem. Hmm, maybe the patch
wasn't correctly integrated into the game after all. I'll try that fight
again while remaining out of sight of the kites and see what happens. The
rest of the party is perfectly capable of dealing with the kites without me.

Btw, is there anything I can do to raise my followers' Reaction scores? I
mean besides what gets them to follow you in the first place. It seems
rather unfair that it's so easy to lose their respect and almost impossible
to increase it, in spite of all the good deeds the character does.

I had the same problem in a castle elsewhere in the game.

Yeah you can use your Fate Points to force a good reaction from your
followers. It will put their reaction to you near to 100 (love).

I had a similar problem. I was using some kind of evil sword and everytime
I killed something my reaction dropped like a rock. Let me see, I think it
was the "evil sword" that Salty Pete wants me to destroy. I found it in a
cave located to the far north. I got rid of it and voila all my problems
disappeared.
