I'm having a little trouble getting experience. Some quests are tailored to
this kind of play (such as the scorpions cave near Shady sands), but other
are not. For example, if you do not help Killian Darkwatter in Junktown
defeat Gizmo's henchman, he will not give you the quest to bug Gizmo.
Does anybody have any tips on this kind of play? I know someone finished the
game this way, but I do not seem to be able to find tips or walkthroughs.
And do some people play different styles? I remember someone saying he
finished the game in a few hours by going straight to necropolis and then
straight to the base.

You'd only be getting quest XP, and so would have an undersized character at
the end. Not that it matters because it's possible to talk the villain to
death. It's hard to sneak around in the base at the end too, but only the vats
must be destroyed.

The whackiest thing I've ever done in FO was kill *every* opponent with a
sledgehammer while keeping Dogmeat alive. I've played a bit of hardcore too.

I think that's hours of play, not gametime. I can't really recall well, but
it's about 30 days in game.

I once used an SMG and leather jacket throughout the whole game. I also
played a game where I made it a point to keep Dogmeat alive. Very hard.
And, of course, I once wiped out the entire west coast and killed *everyone*
in the game.

I'm at level nine right now, and I'm ready to start the cathedral. I did the
Vats already. In the Hub, it was quite difficult to free Harold of the
Brotherhood, because it requires killing three men. However, I started
combat mode and then I hid behind policemen, who got involved in the fight
because of "Oops, villain hit policeman instead!" I got a suit of power
armor by stealing some parts from Rhombus, which required insane sneak skill
as well as a stealth boy. The vats were really cool. When you reach the
final level, the game rewards you 2000 XP for getting that far without being
noticed. You can eavesdrop on VanHagen and the uber-Mutant, and steal a key
from a locker there. I never managed to pickpocket that mutant. I hacked
into the computer and the place exploded. On thing though: I got the water
chip from necropolis and I did not care for the pump. Is is too late or
should I just get the pump running before I finish the game?
Well, now for the boneyard and the cathedral. I don't think any other RPG
will allow as many styles of play as Fallout 1 does. I believe Fallout 2
cannot be finished a 'pacifist' (not really of course, I blew up the
scorpions, the military base and probably the master later on, also,
necropolis is even more dead thanks to me).

When I did my Pacifist play-through, I went with a 10 A. You can't Sneak
by everything, but with a high Agility, you can run away from most fights
with very little damage taken.
Tip: If you want to have an *absolutely* clean "Kill Count", don't finish
all the Brotherhood quests. Although you can leave the BoS NPCs at the
entrance of the army base, they will still shoot bad guys when you come out,
and those kills end up on your record. Even with a 10 Agility, I couldn't
get out before they killed a guy :-(

I now regret having started with 10's, because I forgot that all scores
could be augmented in the game. But on the other hand, All the abilities
that mattered were maximized (except maybe agility).
