I recently bought EOB 1 on sale (~$15). I've heard good things about it,
and I liked Dungeon Master, so fine. So I'm playing along and on level
three, at the very end, I put all four gems in the carving eyes, which opens
a secret door, and I'm done. I figure I might need the gems later, so I get
them all back. It says "Special Quest Completed" or something. Hey, what's
going on here?!?

Nobody told me about any special quests :-) Have I missed some? And am I
just supposed to wander around, blindly stumbling into these quests?

Also, what's with the Oracle of Knowledge on the third level? I can't
figure out what I'm supposed to do with it. Am I missing something, or is
the game like this, where you just stumble around and find stuff? I
finished the level, so heck if I know :-)

I'm also rather under-equipped, with only one bow, one long sword, and one
chain mail. Is that normal for the fourth level? I hate those spiders
already :-|

I played Eye of the Beholder I before I got net access, and
later ran it as a pen and paper AD&D module through use of the
clue book. Since I needed all the "Beholder Bonus" info sent to
me [originally the "special quests" when completed, were to be
part of a contest for promotional purposes.] from SSI. They
sent me a fax to them from Westwood Asscociates which lists all
the Beholder bonuses, and suggests the clues that were to be
put in the clue book. Interesting reading from a game designers
point of view. I suggest you get the EOB cluebook, as otherwise
you will have considerable difficulty in the drow levels.
Oh, does anyone know what the inaccessable room on the first
level was used for? It had a Dwarven portal with all the
carvings, and connected to a similarly inaccessable room on the
second level. I got to them through means of the Eye of the
Beholder map editor :), but I could not figure out what to do
there. If anyone knows, please post a response here, or email
the address below. Attached is the truncated list of the quests.
