Not sure if anyone might know the answer to this...I got to vault 13 before
with no problems, but since I've gone off and done other stuff, every time I
come back the game crashed to desktop, whether I come in from the world map or
come in through the cave, as soon as I go into the vault proper, the game
crashes...it does it with all my saved games for this character, but if I go
to some old saved games with another character it works ok...anyone know
anything? Changing to a full install didn't help.

I'm guessing the savegame got corrupted very early on, you just didn't feel
it until this moment.

Yeah, there is actually an interesting story behind this.
It has to do with how the game was written, and the ultimate fate of
the deathclaws.
I remember reading about it somwhere, maybe on the Black Isle boards,
not sure where.

What it boils down to is a scripting problem.
Essentially, you have to let the deathclaws be killed.
The developers were going to make it possible to save the Vault 13
Deathclaws, but then decided against it.
If you play in the way necessary to save them, then return to the
vault, you get that irritating crash to desktop.

If you don't let them die, it essentially shuts down the game.

This is one bug that can be bypassed through play.
Although the final slideshow where they say "You proved genocide is
still effective" is pretty irritating after that forced failure.

Hmm...so how can I let them die and get the geck then?

I figured something out at least......I was able to copy the vault13.sav files
from the saved games where I could go there, and copy it into my saved game
file...and it works now!!! Problem solved. All I really have to do is go
back and go through vault 13 for the first time the way I want to for this
character (since the saved game that works is my jackass character;
when I wandered around in the vault, they remembered the way my
jackass character behaved when they were there!)....copy it, and then go back
there.
