SPOILERS -----------SPOILERS-------------SPOILERS----

GOTHIC 3 ..the new release prompted me to go back & finish the main quest.
But is that possible ? & would I even know ?? so many unfinished bits &
endings (?)

The main / central quest seems to be go North to find Mighty Mage Xardas.
Tried this soon after first playing ..had a hell of a difficult time up in
snowy North,
So I gave up to wander around (at great length) in the southern areas.

Right ! time to take my now level 20+ Hero with big inventory & weapons
back up there again as my many wanderings have given next to no info re:
that main quest.
I Sneak a look at a website's full detailed world map to see roughly
where Xardas Tower is.
Get there ..AT LAST !!! he's going to give me the full, big, INTERESTING
story.

Like hell !...he has some vague UNINTERESTING chat about him playing with
the dark side & Hero to go get 5 mugs (or something) after poor Hero has
just
spent umpteen game hours looking for Fire Chalices which seem now of little
interest. Xardas seems much less impressive than last seen in Gothic II ..
old & fat & talks like a 20th cen. Marketing Man.

SOOO ! My Hero kills Xardas ...I did not thing the game would let me but
with the help of a summoned Gollom (V.big) he's gone down n out for good.
Game happily gives a me a Quest finished message with some XPoints.
What the heck shall I do now ??
I've come down to Geldern & beating up just about every NPC ...the PC's
can wait until Hero has got something out of them..
75% reputation needed just to talk to Orc ugly Big Boss Shaman ..& its My
Hero that wants to do them a favor ?

Some time back I lost my temper with the repetitive styled & patronizing
quests
& took to slaughtering all the Orcs in a number of towns ...producing nice
quiet places where
NPCs marked 'freed slave' & 'freed Rebel' walk casually around saying
'Thanks' & 'Take care..see you around'

Is there any point in my V. murderous Hero going on ??

Naah. You're playing the game all wrong. G3 is setup
to ensnare stupid kids who play "run and gun" and
don't have the intelligence to play a mature RPG game.
Hero is truly a hero of his people. While he is forced
to side with the Royals and support the King, he is
also a product of his age. Obviously, in times to come
he will become a hippy and see the Light of Adanos,
but not yet. First he has to free the humans from
the Orc invaders, and second, he must drive the
Slave Traders from the desert, and restore the Nomads
to their rightful home. It is all about the coming age
of Honor and Morality ... the death of the Dragons.

A stupid dishonorable person, such as the Mercs
could never do this. Sooner or later, gold would
enslave them. So Hero must build his character
and strength for the quest of Honor he must face.

The entire game supports that. He must train in
the arenas. He must build his forces for the coming
battle of liberation of Myrtana. But first he must
journey North and liberate Nordmar. He cannot
do that until he has completed all the quests
in both Myrtana and Varant ... but not liberated
any of the towns. Once he has reached his limit
of development ... Heavy Rebel Armor, the Nimrod
bow, The War Crossbow, over 400 points on
endurance, life, strength, ... and finally, and
most important ... a self made, sharpened, and
blessed Long Sword and Paladin Shield ... then
he goes to Nordmar to complete all quests
given him at the FireClan.

After that begins the Liberation phase of the game.
First Nordmar, and finally Varant.

And I charge you ... to free the Slave Girls at
Montera .. the girl tending the cows ... and the
girl at Silden ... upstairs sweeping the floor at
the Orc big house. Unless you free those two
girls, and receive their blessing, you have failed
as a true Knight of the coming Age of Chivalry.

Very well. I shall be off.

Well yes, thanks Johns.
But Killing Xardas should have made some big difference ?
And why do I have to look to you for that mission statement
instead of being given it in the game ?

You mention girls..the only ones I can recall EVER coming across so far in
very many hours of wandering are 2 nervous (& not very good looking) ones in
Ardea.
Perhaps my basic mistake is to expect to find clear central Main Quest
directions like in Gothic II ...when there just isn't any in G3.

That is just it. G3 is designed ( why? ) to ridicule stupidity
and dishonor. I can only guess that the writers of G3 are
themselves involved in modern world politics, and embedded
that theme into Gothic 3. Clearly the issues of the Middle
East ( the worshippers of Beliar ) are about dishonorable
mercenaries. The Orcs represent the failed leadership of
the Free World, and our need to throw them off and return
to a more Liberal Democracy. Adanos is the trust in a Green
Earth and appropriate industry. The females of G3 are
prisoners of their gender, and even slaves to lust. Everything
they are depends on the good will of their husbands and
Masters. When you free the Slave Girl at Silden, reduce
the Orc numbers as far as you can, and then rush the
Orc Big House. She will come to your side and fight with
you ... and then you will know. She must survive.

As for the sequence of quests, there is one rule. Never
leave the local area until you have completed every
single quest you can possibly find in each town.
When spending your LP, build strength and hunting
skill to where you can get every single skill quickly
in both ... except 2-handed anything. Only the Long
Sword is worth having in this game. The sequence
of towns goes: ( No liberation at all )

Ardea, Reddock, Cape Dunn, Montera, Gotha, Okara,
Silden, Geldern, Trelis, Faring, Nemora

Brega, Ben Erai - Lago, Ben Sala, Bakaresh, Al Shedem,
Mora Sul

Wolf Clan, Hammer Clan, Xardas Tower, Fire Clan,
Monestary

During all of this, you will collect the 12 Fire Chalaces,
and the 5 Artifacts of Adanos. When the Liberation of
Nordmar is complete, you give out the 12 Fire Chalices,
and then you go to Ishtar to get the "stick" of the Nomads
from him ... a tricky little battle, but never kill a Water
Mage. Just attack Ishtar and kill Zuben. Then go to Vengard
and attack the Orc Chieftans and make it to King Rhobar.
Become the Warrior of Fire, and go tell Xardas to screw
himself and leave.

First liberate Varant in the same sequence, but let the
Nomads help you at Braga, Bakaresh and Mora Sul. And
some help at Al Shedem .. not much.

Then begin the liberation of Myrtana. Faring, Trellis, Geldern.

Then come over the back wall at Montera and attack the
Orc Chieftan himself. Stay there and eliminate as many
Orcs as you can before straying out of the Orc fort.
Then stay back from the entrance gate to Montera until
all the Mercs from the farms have come in and been
defeated. That way, the Slave Girl tending the cows
will survive. If you get too close to her, she will try to
help you and get killed.

Finally, the moment the entire game comes down to
... free the Slave Girl at Silden. Again attack from the
opposite side of the camp, and stay out in the fields
and let the Mercs and Orcs come to you. Even when
they stop coming, wait. More will come. Watch for
the Shaman. He will be throwing fire balls. Let him
come out and kill him. That means the Orcs are
coming out from the Big Orc Building. When that
stops, or greatly pauses, approach the Big Orc
building slowly. As you approach the gate, listen
for attacking orcs. They will be trying to kill her.
Rush them and fight like hell. She will grab a
weapon and join you. Stay by her until the Orcs
sound retreat. Also note that the Cook joins you.
He is one great sword fighter, and will take on
the biggest and baddest and defeat them.

Afterwards, accompany the now Freed Slave
Girl back to her room upstairs. She will thank
you, and then sweep the floor. Take your shoes
off, and realize who she truly is.

actually Cape Dunn first, then Faring, Trellis, Geldern ...

Also, when you get to a town, post about it, and I'll describe
the sequence of quests as I remember them ... and a perfect
opportunity to tick off John Lewis.

Thanks Johns ...I shall keep that post for reference.
I'm just sort of glancing through it with one half open eye to try & not
give it all away.
