That is what the headline is in the May CGW! The article shows some really
GREAT looking new screenshots and says the release date is Late 2001. It
also says they are already a good full year into development!

Wow, I thought that it would never see the light of day. I am happy to be
wrong!

Not to rain on your parade, but is this game being platformed for DOS or

Yes Thank the Gods!

See new site below for the latest on Morrowind. It is still under

LOL

Got the new CGW issue in the mail and it has some very nice looking
Morrowind shots. Unfortunately, they don't quite capture that Redguard-like
crashing to the desktop at least twice an hour feel ;)

Redguard only crashed once for the entire length of the game.

Sure that may not be what most people must have observed.
Which actually makes statements like these (mine and the
above poster's) -while being true- pretty much useless and at
worst, misleading.

In general though, Redguard was a very stable game.

Perhaps for you, but my experience was different, to say the least. And,
yes, my system is the rock of Gibraltar when it comes to stability, running
every other game I threw at it then and since with aplomb.

Redguard was a decent game, though. Just wish it had actually been coded
for Windows 95/98 and not DOS. Not too much to ask for a game that came out
in late '98, is it?

RedGuard infuriated many for not supporting (any) PCI sound cards
properly.Either sound dropped out and you'd get a harsh squawking sound. It
could have been a great game, but it feels like it was pushed out too soon
(the lead designer quit in a hurry right after it was released).

What are you talking about? Pathesda doesn't do QA testing, period.
They use their customers as beta testers, although they might be hard
press to find people who still process a copy of DOS.

Funny, my PCI sound card worked fine with it.

You should probably check a few facts before making a statement like
this. My PCI Diamond Sonic Impact S90 using an Aureal chip works fine.
In my opinion, Redguard *is* a good game.

My Turtle Beach Tropez Plus did _not_ work fine. It was very

Apart from the sound problems, I agree. I'm glad the sound worked
fine for you, but there were a large number of people for whom it did
not.

Yes, but that's a far cry from "does not work with PCI sound cards."

Now be fair. Bethesda did beta test Daggerfall. And the beta testers did
report pretty much all of the bugs to Bethsda prior to release.

They just chose not to listen to the beta test results, that's all :-\ (Go

I for one am very excited about the news on Morrowind. Daggerfall did have
it's problems, but I found it total blast to play. I loved the open ended
nature (You could stick to the main story if you wanted to!) and can't wait
for Morrowind to offer something similar.

I have so many stories that I tell my RPG playing friends who never gave
Daggerfall a chance. Like when the guards set a trap for my thief by telling
him he was accepted into the Thieves Guild, telling him a place and time to
meet, and upon his arrival, the house was flooded with guards bent on his
capture. I hae dozens of memories like that one from DF, which, in my
opinion was way ahead of it's time in terms of detail, scope, and AI.

When describing DF recently to some friends, I told them it was a single
player version of EQ with a much larger world fleshed out with incredible
freedom.

I do agree though that the random dungeons were annoying as hell.

That's LORD Marcus Dracon to you! Have some respect for your betters, Pathesda
syncophant! Grimoire will be on time and it will rule! Forget Daggerfraud!

Geez, that was a long time ago... how many of us here actually remember Marcus
firsthand? I can't believe that guy is still around... Grimoire still ain't
released, and Morrowing, MANY years late, is finally on the horizon. That's the
really funny part.

Personally I always thought Marcus WAS Cleve, just a bit dazed from doing three
thousand one-handed pushups in a row and single-handedly programming three
thousand awesome groundbreaking games that nobody ever heard about.

Pfft.

Yes, the dungeons were a tad *large*.
But having a whole huge area to roam and do whatever you want with is great.
It's supposed to have around 30,000 towns and take two week real time to walk

MW is supposed to be smaller, but more detailed, which is cool. I usually never
leave the Daggerfall province, myself.
