Hello everyone, just another MM8 question...

I am very disappointed with my Minotaur character, who
unfortunately happens to be me. This guy can't use a shield,
can't wear boots or a helm, and can only GM axe...there doesn't
seem to be any upside. When I started playing, I created him as
a test character, just to try out the game..unfortunately the
beginning is so easy (until recently) that I got pretty far
along with him, like about a quarter of the way thru, from what
I can tell (I'm about 20th level and am doing my promo quests).
Should I restart the game with a more viable character? (I'm
leaning towards a dark elf.) Any suggestions on how to juice
this guy up so he can compete? I mean, jeez, my Vampire is
beating him pretty badly melee-wise with her sword-and-dagger.
Can a spear master use a spear in his left hand, or no? If I
could master spear, I would do that, and use a good one-handed
axe in my right.......

So far, the rest of my gang seems useful enough.....I've got
Devlin Arcanus (necro, my heavy-artillery mage, alchemist, ID
item guy)...Lisbeth the Vampire ( good fighter, backup healer,
awaiting Levitate ability)...Frederick Whatshisname(cleric,
Light magic and merchant) and Simon Templar ( knight, repair
item, and user of all those cool warrior items). Any thoughts on
this party composition? I may be dropping the vamp when I find
a decent dragon.

Dave

(snippage of lamentations of how minos suck, which they do)

No, they can put the spear in their right hand only, IIRC. If your mino
can master in sword, he can put that in his left. But I don't think
minos can master in sword...

Honestly, if you're really unhappy with your mino, the 20s isn't *that*
bad a time to start over. You'll get into your 50s or 60s or so, and
that's if you're speedy. I finished somewhere in the 70s. And a Dark
Elf would be an excellent choice for a main character - it was mine, and
I never regretted it. He didn't dish out the damage like Simon or
Ithilgore (my dragon), but the trap disarming was nice, along with GM
bow, and the occasional spell back-up was nice too. They're the
well-rounded class.

The dragons are psycho powerful, and you can get one easily just by
dropping by their cave.

"Me" in my game is a warrior but I have a Mino as a group member and use
him as the extra healer and only have him increase body magic, so far he
is working well as an "axe warrior' and there should be some very decent
2-handed axes in the game.

Here is how I am doing this:

"me" warrior- sword guy used as disarmer till I could pick up D.E. to
end up using 2 GM swords, expert bow and GM plate.

Necro- main magic guy and used as ID guy and seller/buyer until getting
D.E. to end up as GM of all offensive magics and dark magic, uses staff
and bow, leather.

Cleric- main healer and used as seller/buyer until getting D.E. to end
up as GM of all defensive magics and light magic, uses mace and bow,
chain.

Mino-second fighter and extra healer, only built up body magic as of
now, having GM perception will be helpful to be axe GM and has expert
bow

*Note* Both healers were the first to get mana regen items.

Dark Elf, my key, uses Glamour and is main seller/buyer now, will get GM
disarm and will Master ID to be all inclusive chest opener, to be GM bow
and using dagger, does the Wizard Eye, Feather Fall, Light combo, very
nice, looking forward to blind and darkfire. Will also use Expert spark
spell with Necro in hallways. Very effective. Picked up in Alvar.

I know about dragons but will pass on them this time through, maybe do a
Vampire, Troll, Dragon next time

I went with a dark elf, which I loved, until about level 20 into the game,
when by normal course of play, you 'acquire' for hire a level 50 dark elf,
which at that point is massively overpowered and helps the party out
enormously. If I had have known, I might've chosen differently, because a
dark elf is an 'all-rounder' and strikes a comprimise between magic and
fighting, and now I have two of them, and that leaves little room for
'specilized' characters to fill the other slots, in my case, a dragon, a
necro and a cleric.

My cousin went for a NECRO, which is a good choice as you obtain a few
decent 'might' guys early on.

the dragons kick ass.. i got my first one when i was like 6 or 7th level.. he
kills more things then the rest of the group combined...

anyway, i chose a vampire early on cuz my friend had already been playing for
close to a week and he chose a dark elf.. and liked it.. i also really like my
vampire so far, averaging around 11th level in my group (except the dark elf
that just joined is only 8 so far) i also recently got a 15th level necro in my
group (replacing the original necro)

after three days of play my party is ME (11th lvl vampire), a dragon 11th? level
(my damage machine temporary alchemist and tank), a 15th level necro, fredrick
the cleric 11 or 12th lvl, and a dark elf lady of 8 levels (archer, and travel
boon caster)... i am pretty happy with this setup so far.. i have found people
of all classes to join me except a troll (which i'm sure will happen) so
basically any class you chose will be duplicated at some point most likely, so
it kinda depends on personal taste and what YOU plan to specialize in if
anything...

This message consists of spoilers about the locations of certain
excellent NPCs, you have been warned :-)
***

I played the game as a dark elf character, then went and started
a new party, and optimized heavily. I used a cleric myself, so I
ran through the temple with the knight. From Shadowspire one can get
level 15 necromancer immediately, then off to Garrote Gorge to pick
up the nice level 5 dragon, from Murmurwoods level 50 dark elf and
then just rush in to rescue the level 50 knight. By now the party
consists of your own cleric, dragon (who will be tough), level 50
dark elf, level 50 knight and that necromancer.

And here lies the problem. One has to do a lot of quests to get
much weaker characters later in the game. For example when I picked
up the L30 dragon, that L5 dragon was twice as tough (well, dragon
ability at 22 compared to L30's 10). It is a joke having to go to
Regna to get a level 15 character, who is of no use by then.

I should try the game as a troll character, pick up a cleric, dark
elf (for town portal), minotaur and vampire, or something. Or perhaps
I will just wait for the next version :-)
