i used to love daggerfall when it came out, and now i've rediscovered it,
and its still amazing once patched, but quite buggy on faster computers
(daggerfall required a 486, i have a 700mhz pentium).

clicking on an corpse for a fraction of a second counts as about 10 clicks
since my computer is faster, and there are some other small problems.

are there any similar daggerfall games, preferably made by the same
developers with the same character development / open rpg style

also, i should've asked in my last post,

i've heard there was a daggerfall expansion pack, did the expansion pack
update the old game system (windows / directX / 3dfx support?)

The first game in the series was Arena. Older graphics, and slightly
different level up system, but overall the same game mechanics.

There was no expansion pack for Daggerfall. There were a few additional
quests added into the game if you purchased it from one store or another,
and those can be downloaded on the net. But that really doesn't count as an
expansion pack.

Er? My system is P2-350 but I had no sense of anything running too fast.
Do you speed up your mouse in any way? Use any non-ms mouse drivers?

Bethesda made several similar games.

Arena (never played this)
Battlespire (same play style as daggerfall, but you level up between
levels in the spire and therefore there is no xp to be gained)
Daggerfall
Redguard (I think, very similar to daggerfall)

Arena being the oldest, Redguard the newest.

I loved Arena... though it got a bit tiresome near the end

The coolest bit was the doors that could only be opened by riddle... but
they weren't much use as I could design a spell to blow a hole in the walls

I imagine it would look pretty ordinary now though

Yeah, that was such a nifty trick, except there was one door (at least) that
you couldn't do this for (the one with the tricky "How old am I?" question).
It only worked in dungeons though, so you had to solve the riddles in all the
outside areas - but they weren't overly challenging.

I was really disappointed when they took the destroy wall ability out of
Daggerfall.
Simon.

Hmm, I never tried destroying a wall in Arena. I did, however, find at
least one that I could climb over by shimmying up the corner. I suspect
that was a bug considering there was no climb wall capability in the game,
but it worked.

Alas, you have failed to comprehend the nature of Marcus Dracon.

Wins what, the cow pie throwing contest? He certainly doesn't win any
wit-wars.

Tsk. He has already won, then.
