In Might & Magic VI-VIII (presumably in the last since I haven't played it)
one can eventually fly high above the terrain, everything passing below the
characters (or the first person perspective in this case).

Any other RPGs where the perspective or on-screen characters can fly?

In Ultima 9 you are able to fly in Ambrosia, the city of the gargoyles, but
it's very badly implemented. As far as I can remember you were able to fly
in Ultima Underworld 2, too.

Daggerfall allowed it through the spell levitation. It was a bit funny
too as you clould levitate
with your horse and carriage as well. Excellent if you want to roleplay
Santa Claus.

Ultima 6 and 7 if you picked up the balloon and magic carpet,
respectively.

Many of the Ultima games allowed flight by one means or another.
Spaceship (the old ones), magic carpet, balloon, etc. The Ultima
Underworld games allowed direct flight via spell as well.

The AD&D2 SSI games Menzoberranzan, Ravenloft: Strahd Posession and RL2:
Stone Prophet allowed flight through the use of the (3rd level Wiz?) spell
Fly. I didn't really like those games that much though.(never played RL: SP)

Flying?

Well, there were all sorts of illegal drugs you could use in Fallout1 and
Fallout2.

One of the things I liked in Daggerfall was the climbing skill.
I'd climb up a building and jump over rooftops. A nice alternative to plain
old
walking/running.
That castle Sentinel was REALLY high. I didn't survive the jump.

Yeah -- I remember mounting my horse with the 'h' key while flying high over
castle Sentinel.

The horse and I soon fell towards the earth, sans-parachute. Great fun!

Can you be a pirate too? Do you get a parrot?

I'll only show interest if I get to be a SPACE-pirate... and I get to
fight zombies. And ninjas. Space-ninjas, of course.

Otherwise, count me out.

RPGs where you can fly?
In Elder Scrolls Morrowind there are some Boots that allow you to
fly around.
They are supposed to also Blind Hero but a Bug often allows you to see.

You mean the Boots of Blinding Speed? They don't let you fly, just run
really, really fast. Blind.

There was also an item that let you jump some ridiculous distance (like
halfway across the map or something) but you find that when they guy
wearing it lands. *SPLAT* The item don't slow down the fall at the end.

I enjoyed it. There's a sequal that's in early access that looks
promising.

It was scrolls that allowed that - 3 of them as I recall.
All you needed was a feather fall spell to cast at the end to land
safely.

I still remember those boots - due to a glitch, when I turned into a
vampire while wearing the boots, their speed boost got added in and I
had something like 220% of max speed.
If you remember the start village, there was a dwarven ruin some
distance north on top of a hill and running and jumping from the top of
that I landed in the village.
Took near lethal levels of damage though.

Morrowind was pretty damn good for it's time, albeit too brown.

Morrowind with Skyrim level graphics would be pretty good to play.
Tried replaying it, but the original graphic look so horrible now
compared to the newer games (especially after mods.)
The character graphics were just so low res.

Ever tried the Total Conversion mod? It's pretty sweet, not quite Skyrim
graphic level but an incredible improvement nevertheless.

I looked for such things in the past, but every one was "in progress"
and not actually available for download.

Perhaps I'll take a look again.

Do they upgrade the character graphics and models?

I hated that about Morrowind when it was new - use the chameleon spell
and you saw the haphazard way they made the models since you could now
see through the outer layer.

Pretty sure they did, I haven't installed it yet but there are plenty of
videos on youtube.

I've been spending a lot of time on the road and I don't think my laptop
is beefy enough to handle it (only 1G of VRAM), maybe at lower graphical
settings but I want the full eye candy experience :) Will do it once I
have a chunk of time to spend at home though.

Actually I should ask for clarification; do you mean a Morrowind total
conversion that runs on Morrowind and makes it something else, or
Morrowind re-created in one of the later engines?
I found, but haven't downloaded, one of the latter on the Oblivion
engine, and talk of one on the Skyrim engine that's not available yet.
The oblivion engine one apparently has issues and hasn't had an update
since Nov 2014, so I'm kinda wondering if it's even worth bothering with
it.

Sorry for the late reply. Thought I had bookmarked the video and mod
page when I first saw it but I can't find either one for the life of me.
Looking around I see there are shiploads of Morrowind graphic mods
around now but I'm 95% sure it was this bad boy right here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzt5a_TpH5s

It seems it only works with the Steam version of the game which sucks
because I still have the original retail copy. Their web page is here:

http://www.ornitocopter.net/morrowind-overhaul/

Let me know what you think if you decide to give it a spin.

I used to love flying around in CoH (saddly gone now).

Also in Saints Row IV it's probably a bit too good (GTA ripoff, but IV
you have superpowers, SR IV is better than GTA IV or V IMHO, and the Gat
outa Hell DlC is like a whole new game... set in hell.)

I've heard you can get flying mounts in Wow now too.

Lego Marvel Superheroes has flight, but it's a bit limited in missions
as you have to solve puzzles to get your non-flying heroes to each spot,
who are required to solve thier puzzles etc. The city itself is set up a
bit like GTA III and you can fly around it though. It's a surprisingly
good game. You can do the same in Lego Batman 2, but it takes
considerably longer to get to the flying characters and the game seems
to be much shorter.

You can kind of fly in Fallout 4. It's pretty limited though, more like
a short rocket boost, and only really near the end and you almost (do?)
have to invest heavily in the right skills. There's mods that let you
go full on flight or adjust the fuel used, but never used them, the game
was so leggy as it was, flying around seemed like a bad idea.

I'd love more personal flying in fantasy rpgs. Flight's one of the
must-have spells in D&D and available fairly early, yet, you can't
really do it in any of the old D&D computer games.

Bethesda's always made ugly ugly characters. I think I posted here on
how disturbing I found them for Oblivion. They've gotten ever so
slightly better, I find the Skyrim ones tolerable.

I didn't care much for Morrowind, mainly because it was so ridiculously
easy.
