After learning (from this newsgroup) that Interplay had put together a CD
that included Wasteland, I promptly call them up and ordered. I am happy
to say that I have a had quite an enjoyable time playing Wasteland, an
old favorite of mine. I have managed to dredge a lot of the puzzles up
from the depths of my memory; however, I do have some questions.

1) In Highpool, there is a cave you use a rope to get down into. The
passage has been blocked by rubble and debris. I can't remember how
to clear out the passage way. I have tried using a crowbar, shovel,
pick ax, sledge hammer, and a grenade - none of them work.

2) In Quartz, you go to Scotty's bar and you'll find Head Crusher sitting
at a table on the south side of the bar. I have already gone to the
Rail Nomad's camp and gotten the train Brakeman to give me the Visa Card
that Head Crusher wants. My problem is, I can't figure out how to get
Head Crusher to talk to me. I have gone to his table at the bar, and he
invites my party to sit down. But that is an automatic message, not a
encounter conversation. I have split off one member of by party and
moved onto the chair - nothing. Just that same mesage. I have tried to
"use" the Visa Card in the direction of the Head Crusher - nothing.

3) General hints and clues would be appreciated. I would also be interested
in some cheats or info files. I haven't found anything yet.

I remember having a lot of fun when this game first came out. I played it
on a C64. Now I have a 486DX33, and it's just as fun. Certainly the game
mechanics and interface are antiquated, but it has that undefineable
playability quotient that makes a great game. The keyboard macros have
helped overcome some of the interface problems. Overall, I'd say that if
you liked Wasteland the first time around, it'd probably still appeal to
you.

Use the Climb skill.

Use the Visa card with no direction (i.e. in your own space).

What you have to do is use the credit card on the chair. That is quite
counterintuitive and it took me a little while to figure out too. I
agree - this is a great game (I'm playing it for the first time). Good
luck!

Also, about Head Crusher, there is this Riddler, does anybody know the
answers to his riddles?

For the second Riddle I answered Desert, but nothing happens, is that the
right answer? Or did I mispell it or something?

Thanks

Did you try giving it to him? Maybe show it to him? Don't remember this
one. I played it too long ago.

My younger brother loved this game so much when it was out that he kept on
going back to beat the game with the same party of characters. Then again,
I suppose have a pugulism of 7 did have its merits in battle. :)

Wow! All theses people are getting into Wasteland again! Its the
greatest game! I've got a great attack macro (which may be common
knowledge by now) and one for earning lots of money! Let me know if
you'd like to hear about those, but I don't want to type too much more
right now (I could be playing Wasteland!). Ever run out of power packs?
Sell a whole bunch to a store, and before exiting, reboot. The store
will have all the ones you sold, and your character will have the ones he
did before! Our store has about 90 power packs now! Is it true that
you can't go to the Library when your IQ is over 50? About the power
packs, thank Robert Hunt for that tip. Give credit where credit is due,
right? Gotta go play!

You mean that you actually used power packs?? After a while of playing, the
ammo I find was the ammo I use. Then again, my brother had this thing about
restarting the game everytime we beat it and use the same characters again.
Amazing what damage a proton axe can do when the character has skill 7+ to
those Mark whatevr robots. :)

Damn, I think I feel the urge to play it again too.

Since its been a while since I last played, this may be wrong, but I think
you need to talk to someone before Base Cochise will show up. I remember
something about the Base not showing up until you found out about it and found
the record on where it was. It may have had something to do with the place
that had the clone facilities. I seen to remember beating some psychotic
cyborg and going into his mind and then heading out to the base.

I wouldn't mind seeing those. (Although i have plenty of money right now.)
Perhaps y'all could shed some light for me?

Las Vegas: I've just started LV. I've gone to the jail and freed Covenant.
I read the journal with paragraph 65. That gives me a little
info about the Church of the Mushroom Cloud and the 2 gambling bosses.
Crumb, manager for one of the casinos, says to go to Faran Brygo and tell
Faran that he sent you. I can't find Faran. Fat Freddy's casino won't talk
to me without a password. The Church guys accept the password I found in
the jail journal, but they also want a gift? I'm kinda stumped. The 2 or 3
leads I've tracked down seemed to have fizzled out. Anyone have any hints
for me?

Needles: I've already finished Needles, but there is one part I couldn't
figure out. In the eastern-most section of Downtown, there is a
building that requires a password to get in. I have gone over Needles
several times, but no one has a password for me. Any hints here?

As far as not being able to get into a Library once your IQ is over 50,
I have no idea. None of my characters' stats are anywhere near that
level. (I guess I'll have to spend some more time playing. :)

Thanks,
Carl

Faran is in one of the buildings nearby. At least that is what I remember.
I don't recall what the password for Fat Freddy's is, but I am pretty sure
that it is found in the game. Have you looked through all the buildings in
L.V. yet? There is some good stuff around as well as a hint or two, maybe.

Needles ... Needles ... Could you tell me some more about it? I don't
remember much about Needles. Well, lets see, that is where the Hotel room
is where you tell the lady something and you get a go at rescuing the mayor
right? Man, I really need to dig that old game outta my closet again.

I suppose if you get really desperate for answers, you could read all the
paragraphs that come with wasteland and find most of the passwords you need.
As for just finding places, I would just go into every building I could.
Builds up some nice experience points and there are a few things hidden that
help (Kinda like the extra Proton Axe in Vegas).

Keep exploring until you find something that looks kinda like a scorpion,
kill it, and explore the area around it. Faran is around there.

Talk to the hobos near the restaurant. Give them some squeezin's, and one
of them will talk about "losing all his money at that damn [something]
club". The name of the club is the password. I read somewhere about being
able to get the Red Ranger Rifle in there somehow, but don't know how.
Anyone want to shed some light on that? Also, how do you get past the

You have to reassemble the android in the sewers of Las Vegas(his name slips

Faran has his own building in the NE part of Las Vegas. The password to get

This building is just a private gambling club. If you want the password,
give a bum some snake squeezin's.

I don't think you can get the Red Ranger Rifle, but you can fight the
Red Ranger himself if you go and kill all the kids in highpool. After
you kill the Red Ranger, you get 7.?? ammo and highpool dies out as a town.

Which was the maze of arrows? The one where you get transported to different
parts of the maze?? If that is the one, you should just try abit and look
at how the arrows point. It wasn't that difficult once you seen how the
arrows move you around.

I've already gotten through the maze, but there is a computer terminal at

I have such wonderful memories of blowing away nuns in the Citadel with my

There is no way out to exit the room by walking. You have to THINK your way

I've heard, that there are two Proton Axes in the game.
I've got one from a guardian or so after a little fighting.
Does anyone know where to find the other? (in case it exits)

just curious

(BTW: in my second game i constructed a special charakter from start, with
his only purpose being the wielder of the Proton Axe. (and with some deeper

The second proton axe is in Las Vegas. It is in the building on the sw corner

You have to take the question, well, kinda literally.

About the only puzzle I have not been able to figure out in the entire game
