Before deciding, I had a close look on said cover if there is anything
that warns of a copy protection or digital rights management, found
nothing, and so I took it.
At home, it took a quite lengthy installation until everything was in
place. The start menu looked a bit crude, red bars and so, and when I
chose to start a new game, I was told there is an update available, if
I wanted it.
I clicked ok, had to wait until 150 MB had come down the line, then
wait even more for the patch to be installed, and then the start menu
had blue bars.
Starting the game produced the message: (translated) "(Title:
Activation) For the copy protection, it is necessary to install of a
specific driver into the system folder of this computer. Do you now
want to install this driver?"
If I say no, the menu shuts down.
I don't need this copy control. I bought this game, even if it had been
for only ten Eurobucks; but it is completely legal, and I don't want a
software like Starforce (it didn't tell but it *is* Starforce) to mess
up my Windows.
Is there any way to run Loki, with or without disk in drive, *without*
this blasted Starforce?

No I am not a troll. Just a beginner and lazy!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, good old Starforce... My first recommendation would be to get on
somewhere like gameburnworld.com and get a no-DVD fixed patch. I did a
quick look and they have up to version 1.0.8.3 available. Luckily,
since you started the game but the Starforce drivers had apparently not
been implemented yet, you seem to have the update completed, which
should allow you to use the fixed executable (as long as the version is
the same).
I've had my share of run-ins with Starforce, at least this time it gave
you the option to refuse install. Past versions just installed with the
game, you never knew it was there, then the first time you ran the game
the Starforce driver initiated. I had a few games that I found
instructions for install, where it was "install game, do not run yet,
drop in fixed no-CD patch, run Starforce scrubber (just to be safe),
then run game" or something similar. The idea was to catch it before it
embedded itself in your system. Seemed to work pretty well, FWIW.
Hope you can figure it out... Would hate to see you waste that money
(even at bargain prices) because of some craptacular DRM scheme.

You own a licensed copy - just d/l a torrent of the entire cracked game
or just the min files you need to run it without the Starfilth crap &
feel utterly justified & righteous in doing so! ;)
If the no-cd cracks from GCW or similar don't do this completely for
you, I can take a look at the full cracked ISO I d/led a while back &
see if I can extract just the fixed files & upload them for you. Not
sure if I kept the game though as it was a quick uninstall after just a
couple hours - it's a mediocre D2 clone on almost every level imo.

(sigh) well, this is probably the way to go. This is the first time
after more than fifteen years of computer gaming that I am resorting to
the usage of a crack. After all, I bought a DVD with no sign on the
outside that it is chained to a DRM, so here goes.

In a want it now instantly straight away world - no :-)
(Krustov in ucv)
Just think of it as a user mod that improves gameplay Gabe - no disk
loading/swapping/spinning, or copyright/DRM shit to deak with! ;)
The devs should almost have to pay the hackers/crackers for the service
they provide lol!
