D2:Act I - (minor spoiler) Am I Screwed?

I have just finished Diablo II - Act I with my paladin and necromacer.
Now I am trying Act I again with a barbarian. However, something
strange happened when I tried to complete the third quest.
If I remember correctly with my first two characters, the Underground
Passage leading to DarkWood is in a 2-level cave. I seems to remember
the cave is in Cold Plains and the exit to DarkWood is at Cave level 1.
But I have having problem looking for the exit with my Babarian
character. I went through the whole of cold plain and Stoney Field, and
the 2-level cave ... no exit to DarkWood.
Am I getting senile or this is a bug?

map for me, whereas most of the caves are at some random spot in the middle
of the map.

The second cave, the one you seek I THOUGHT was in the marsh. Anyway, the
difference between the two is the one you want is on the border of the map.
The other one is in the middle of a region somewhere.

(not in the middle) of the Stony Field. This is deceptive because there is
another cave in the Stony Field that is just there for you to hack monsters
and get items.

I had a weird experience where the first time I played through the
Underground Passage and found only the exits to the second level and
back to the Cold Plains. After searching both levels fruitlessly for the
Dark Woods exit, I closed the game and did some productive work. I
reloaded later, and I found the exit practically as soon as I re-entered
the Underground Passage.
Strange.
