What's with the tarot decks from Castle Darkmoor in Might & Magic VI?

I used one, got +2 resistance to something, thought it a good deal.
Used another later, got +2 to something else but turned into a gravestone.
Restored the game, tried again, same result. Restored the game, hung
onto the deck.

Much later, I have four tarot decks. Each one of them gives
"permanent poison," turning one of my characters to stone.

I'm guessing that they have to be used at the right time or in the
right place. The strangest thing is that there doesn't seem to be a
reference anywhere on the Internet to tarot decks in this game --
nothing in any news post (besides this one), nothing in any web page.
Is the use of tarot decks intuitively obvious to everybody besides me?

I think it has to do with the current month. (Don't know what happens in what
month)

As you noted, their effects vary depending on when you use them,
and seem to be consistent at any given time (i.e. die-and-reload
doesn't help). I'm reasonably sure the effect changes more often
than every month; perhaps daily, or with the phase of the moon.
AFAIK nobody's been interested enough to figure out exactly what
they do when. (In fact, the "new" effect might be selected randomly
AFAIK.) You could be the first!

I haven't tried it a lot, but it always seems to give you the same stat
(Resistance, etc...) that is being given by the shrine quest. I.E. if this
month the shrine of personality is active, then the tarot cards give
personality, etc.. Seemed to work as far as I bothered to check.

I think that the effect matches the effect that the current month's
shrine gives. So, might in January, intellect in February, etc. The
level of effect is random and it can have unpleasant side effects.
But those aren't any big deal. Use one near a temple and just go heal
up if you don't have spell casters that can do it for you. The
advantages are worth the minor inconvenience.

Well , I found out that what my character had most off , the cards gave to him.
ie my arch mage with HIGH intellect got +2 intellect. My battle mage with HIGH
personality got +3 personality. So I think it has something to do with that.Could be wrong though.
