I've teamed up with the Mage Nalia at De'Arnise Hold. Inside, I'm
trying to get her to open up a couple of (presumably) magically locked
doors using the Knock spell. However, these doors remain locked with
the message "The mechanism that operates this does not have a
conventional lock, and may be warded against simple spells"

Thanks, Rob.

No lockpicking is possible because the lock is not conventional.

'Knock' is a simple spell that will not work since the door is warded.

Guess you need to find the key. The key that is probably in the posession
of the 'boss' monster you're trying to avoid having to confront...

SPOILER WARNING!
SPOILER BELOW!

You're absolutely right. I foolishly missed the Keep Key which is
located in one of the library's bookshelves.

Indeed. Unfortunately, Knock only really works on the kind of door
that you could already pick the lock of, if you had a good enough
thief. There aren't any doors in the game that are "magically locked
so they can never be lockpicked, but open for a Knock spell".
