You're absolutely right. I foolishly missed the Keep Key which is
located in one of the library's bookshelves.
Indeed. Unfortunately, Knock only really works on the kind of door
that you could already pick the lock of, if you had a good enough
thief. There aren't any doors in the game that are "magically locked
so they can never be lockpicked, but open for a Knock spell".
