Either cast paralyze or get in a lucky shot with a mace to do the
same. A "slow" spell might help as well.

Fate, curse, slow - do everything you can to slow Rob down or prevent
his weapon from eradicating your party. Cast all the beneficial magic
you can on your party before combat begins.
I found that it helped to cast "feather fall" and jump down from a
balcony so that I was right in his face as soon as turn based combat
started..

I cast invisible and waited until he was standing against a wall or
ledge. Then got in his face and started turn based combat. He never
moved from the spot. Except I was attacking Tolberti since my party
was on the light path.
I had no problem with Robert the Wise:
I ran to him to get him into melee-range, then all my
chars attacked him using their melee-weapon (not very effective,
but it worked), except my cleric who healed the others from time
to time.
the 'big winner spell' I used was pain-reflection ... I would
say that the death of Robert was more or less suicide ;-)
