Hi all

First of all I have to admit that I am cheating in this game and
having an absolute ball. I used my savegame editor and picked up a
little gizmo called a Lyre of Cakes. My Bard can use this device
during combat however it doesn't appear to do anything. I thought it
was just a piece of worthless junk, so I decided to sell it at the
Arms of Argus. To my surprise, the dude in the store wanted to give
me a whopping 50 000 gold pieces for it so it is no triffle.

Does anyone know what its use is. Where in the game are you supposed
to "legally" acquire this instrument?

Your replys will be much appreciated

I've gotten it a few times down in the Isle of Crypts. I still don't know
how to use it, though. Perhaps you have to wield it?

I was under the impression that it cured the party (hit points), but
by the time I found it, my chars had so many HPs that I thought it was
unnoticable. Perhaps I was wrong, or else you need a high level Bard to
get a noticable result.

Can only be found in the Isle of Crypts, Hall of the Past. It is one
of two items that appear in a chect with a key (the other I think is the
horn - prometheus' horn I think - you only get one or the other).

It's been so long since I played the game that I don't remember where
you find the Lyre of cakes. OTOH I don't think it does anything
useful. To find out what it does, crank up your favorite hex editor
and take a look at the file scenario.dbs. Look for Lyre (they use a
symbol in place of `of'.) or cakes and play with the values. Bard
instruments are good to start with because they have relatively little
information. BTW you will have to drop and pick up your Lyre for all
its new values to be reset.

There are many places in the game where you find a treasure chest that
has 'pseudo-random' treasure.
What I mean is, you don't get , say 5 random items, but you get something
like: 1 random reagent, 1 random armor, 1 random weapon, 2 random potions.
Reloading your game and then opening the chest again may give different items.
The Lyre of Cakes may only be attainable as a random musical instrument.
There are a LOT of items that are only random treasures. If you are willing
to go through the hassle, save the game before every treasure chest and
keep reloading until you get something you like. If the same item is always
in a chest, it is probably an important item (such as a map, e.g.)

Not true, I have found this item in the Land of Dreams. But
since I don't have any bard in my party, I sold this item. I could
be wrong about the location, but it's definely not Isle Of Crypts,
because I havn't got that far yet.
