How to get pass to Sandcaster in Xeen?

Where can I get the pass to Sandcaster?
I'm sure I have to perform something for someone to get it. My suspicion is
that I have to complete the quest to get the emerald staff handle or
something. Am I right? Where can I get this item?

You are right. The emerald staff is located on the side of the road
which travels east through the troll forest, past Sandcaster. It will
be obvious if you just walk along the road. Unfortunately, you may
have to kill some armadillos to get it (use implosion, this will kill
them exactly--1000hp every time).
