In the Tularean Caves while saving Loren Steel,
there is a message scroll (apparently that Loren
was delivering?) from Person A to Person B, telling
Person B to talk to "us" about stopping the war
between Cath & the elf-king. The note said person B
could get more info. from Loren.
NOW, when I freed Loren, both my NPC slots were
filled (with the golem and the Cavalier-Quest-Guy...so I
can't get rid of them easily), so Loren never actually
showed up as an NPC.
My Question: Did I miss a possible path-choice
by not being able to talk to Loren as an NPC? Is there
a path to take that doesn't involve taking sides in the war?
Does anything ever come of this note? Or am I
expecting too much from one little throwaway note in a
chest? <grin>
Thanks in advance for any help!
Jen
Yes he did. There are little tiny arrows by the pictures (to
the left and right). They're pretty easy to miss, but you use those
to scroll through your NPC's. He'll be there until you take him back
to the Queen. You are limited to two 'employees', but you can have as
many 'other' followers as the plot allows (which I think is
four... golem + either Crusader or girl...but maybe you could fit a
fifth in at one time; I'm not sure)

I don't think he says anything, but you'll be able to see for
yourself now.

Well, I think you can basically do nothing. My guess
(programmers are free to correct me!) that the judge dying and such
are tied to either your level, or quests you've done, and you probably
can totally ignore both the elves and the humans until after you pick
a new judge.
> Does anything ever come of this note?
I don't think any of the notes have any functional use (maybe
one or two that I'm forgetting...but I don't think so). Most of them
are there only to keep you from thinking your four characters are the
only people in the whole world who do anything besides sit in their
house and respond to one question with the same answer every time ;)
Personally, my 'common sense'/'packrat nature' keeps me from
doing it like I should, but I believe that most things that aren't
clearly marked "QUEST ITEM" or are obviously useful or valuable should
just be thrown away. I'll accumulate a dozen message scrolls before I
finally drop them all in a chest (why does it have to be in a chest,
and not just on the floor? I dunno, I guess I can't keep from
thinking _they MIGHT be valuable_)
Likewise with the 'artifact axe of + to earth magic' that it
sounds like nearly -no one- uses...I carried that around for a long
time, even though -no one- would buy it, and I knew I'd never use it.
And at the end I carried around (spoiler removed) about a
dozen of those "end of the game weapons", for no particular reason. I
guess I figured "I might need some extras". ;)
I really like the message scrolls and such...but for MM8, I'd
prefer if when you find one, your characters say "great, a new message
scroll...we'll copy the message into our journal (so you can re-read
it when you want), and now burn the scroll, because it serves no
functional purpose whatsoever besides giving you some story and info,
and we don't want you to have to take the trouble to move it around
your inventory, worry about it, and eventually throw it away".

I heard that the dwarfs you freed in the mines will ALL join you as
NPCs until you return to the dwarven king... talk about an army of
followers!

Many scrolls do have useful (quest-related) information. I store them
in the chests in my castle.

Well, are there any classes that can use (a) an axe and (b) earth
magic? The Archer... but only with Expert Axe. The Ranger... but for
him it's Earth Magic only up to Expert. Pretty nonsensical artifact.

That would be a great idea for MM8.

I had the dwarves, and Quixote and a partial golem at one time, add in two
hirelings and that makes 11...

Oh yes. The most number of NPCs I have following me around is 11: 2 hirelings,
the Crusader dude, the golem, and 7 dwarves. Funny that the monsters pay
absolutely no attention to them when fighting me.

Actually in the Red Dwarf Mines there are seven dwarves all of
which temporarily join your party.

Are you saying you got both of them together? I tried everything
I could to get that cell door open (with the Fake LS tagging
along) to no avail...
