Hello all. I was just playing Hellfire and have made it to
Diablo. I have a lev 23 mage and he was able to kill Diablo with holy bolt
in the original, but can't even hurt him in hellfire (I always keep
getting apoc'ed by him). So my question is what have people done to best
him as a mage (besides starting over and getting more powerful). Also,
when does the new area open up, before or after killing Diablo?
Thanks in advance.

Brian

Doh! I know I ended up using a lot of Stone Curses and melee attacks,
but I can't remember if that was against Diablo or Na'krul.

As far as the other question goes, you can enter the two new quests as
soon as you've finished the first quarter of the levels (1-4) and have
entered Level 5. Go talk to the farmer up by the cows. The first quest
will be a cake walk by now if you're down mingling with Diablo. The
second one should be a little harder.

Ummm, talk to the farmer and do the hive, AFter that you can go to the
Crypt. You should be able to get a few more levels above 23 to beef up your
fireballs.

You must remember killing someone (something?) else since neither Diablo nor
Na'Krul can be
Stone Cursed. In order to fight Na'Krul with sorcerer, you MUST open his cage
by reading books
(otherwise he is immune to everything). Diablo should be easy to kill with
fireballs or holy bolts
but you want to stand real close to him (so that he tries melee attack instead
of apocalypse).
That's where finishing Hive with Cow quest enabled helps - you get Bovine Plate
with AC 150.
This is good enough to stop most Diablo hits. Having some shield (of blocking,
preferably) and
some items of harmony (works only since Hellfire v1.1) also helps. Besides, it
is nice to distract
the Dark Lord by casting Golem first.
If you haven't enabled the hidden quests it still helps to finish Hive and
Crypt. In Crypt, you should
be able to get some nice items. Na'Krul, for example, drops 3 magic items and
a book of
Apocalypse when killed.
Another advice: starting around level 20, check Griswold's premium items. In
single player, he sells
rings and amulets and you might want to pump up your stats (especially magic)
this way. Wirt
sells jewelry too but you must buy his current item, sell it if you don't like
it and go down and
up in order to see something new. This usually requires a lot of cash and is
feasible only on Nightmare
and Hell difficulty where the money is plentyful.

Have fun!
Arkady.

The farmer will give you the rune bomb to enter the Hive if you've
killed Diablo at least 1 time or if your caracter is above level 15.
You can not enter the Crypt until you've completed the Hive.

I found it manageable to kill Diablo with Holy Bolt in Hellfire. It took
me a few tries and about 8 extra healing (??) potions, but it worked.
This was in "Hell" difficulty with a Level 38 or so Mage.

You enter the new area after speaking with the farmer, IIRC correctly,
he appears after you have completed the first 4 or 5 levels. Some of the
levels down there are really tough. Na-Krul himself is manageable.

Actually, a Golum will pritty much kick Na-Krul's butt on normal, even if
you use the lever.
