Hi all!

I've been getting into Fallout 2 for a while here, but I've come across
a nasty glitch which seems like a bug. When I complete defending the
brahmin against the wild dogs in Modoc (i.e., all the dogs are dead),
two screwy things happen:

- Sulik starts attacking me, and
- I can't get out of combat mode without the game hanging interminably.
I go up a level, and apparently so does Sulik at the same time; this
seems to be causing the bug.

Any idea why? And more importantly, what can I do about it? Here's
some info to help:

- I have patch v1.02d installed, both the US patch and US game
- I'm running it under Windows 98
- I've tried turning off my anti-virus software, but it makes no
difference
- I used the Medium installation
- None of the brahmin have been killed
- I have both Vic and Sulik in my 'party'
- I tried going to the exit grid back to Modoc. This solved the
problems above (i.e., I could go up in level without crashing, and Sulik
didn't attack me), but this caused the brahmin to die, and I'd rather
not continue from this.

Please help! The game seems great, and just when I was getting into it,
it does this... arg.

Thanks in advance!

Try not having Sulik in the party :)

Yet again, sorry for the dual posting. Netscape and my server have
combined to create a VAST MOUNTAIN OF CRAP! :(

It happens every once is awhile to me. Either Vic or Sulik get
hostile. Nothing you can do but go back to your last savegame.

It happened to me, but I looked at it this way - Sulik went crazy, so I
killed him.

Hmm -- maybe a good way to look at it, but i can't defeat the dogs
without him. Especially with Vic shooting everything but enemies all
the time...

Feh. I really hope I don't have to resign FO2 to the shelf.

Why don't you just go back to a prior save?

Jeez, don't do that, you will miss out hugely. You're not that far into the
game, if you can't reload, restart.
It is easily the best game I have ever played - I have played it a few times
anyway. I just started again and am right where you are.

I think that after each battle there is a chance of NPC's leveling up. There
is no experience count for NPC's. So if the problem is really caused by the
both of you leveling up at the same time as you suggested, try fighting the
battle again. If Sulik doesn't level up, perhaps your problem is solved.
Another tip: don't save during battles. It makes the game unstable.

Fallout 1 and 2 may well be some of the best role playing game ever made
(BG2 is excluded from this, as it's rather much like a straight jacket
compared to the Fallout games). DON'T put it on your self.

Sulik goes crazy if you sell stuff to the slavers. I'm assuming this is what
you did.

Having the NPCs is better then having the money, despite the fact that it
seems like a LOT in the begining, but just look in every cupboard, evey box,
and every possible nook and cranny, and sell everything. You'll be rich by
Redding...

Make sure to arm Vic with a long range, but semi-automatic weapon. The
scoped hunting rifle, or later, the gauss rifle, are best for this. He's one
kick-ass SOB when properly equipped... more so then Cassidy...
