where somebody told me to go and see a wizard of some sort in the town of
tembrea, but i cant find this town.

I am pretty sure that Tenebrae is the *only* town in the game, i.e. that
city at the end of the pier you witness the execution on is Tenebrae.

As for resizing the inventory bag, I don't know of anyway to do that.

As far as I know you can't, but what you can do is put items into bags
and then arrange the bags in your backpack.

If I remember correctly the first couple of things you do are 1) go and
talk to the bloke in the cells under the palace (I found the steps hard
to see so I didn't manage to do this until I'd nearly finished the game.
2) go to the caves in the northeast corner and follow the route until
you come out at a hidden valley at the other side. This means jumping
across the water via the stepping stones, solving the lever puzzle, and
killing lots of zombies.

You can't resize your bags I'm afraid. Tenabrae is the town you're in, and
it's the only town in Pagan. The wizard mentioned by the Librarian lives on
the Plateau to the north. You need to head north from the north town exit,
go through a bunch of caves, and you'll reach the pleateau.

BTW: I'd STRONGLY recommend you download & install the patch if you haven't
already done so (and if your Ultima 8 game doesn't include it already - I
think the CD re-release had it, as well as the speechpak), since patching the
game deletes any savegames you have. With it installed, you can select a
destination for a jump by clicking both the left & right mouse buttons
together, which is very handy for navigating the caves.

One final thing, before you head up to the Plateau, go to the top of the
castle, and look for a grey square that will levitate a bit when you approach
it. This is a teleport pad (you'll find out how it works later, but it'll
save you a lot of trouble if you 'activate' it before you leave town).

Hmm, one more thing, is there an automap in this game? Doesn't mention anything
about one in my manual and thought it was kinda strange not to have a map in an
RPG.

I don't think there is one, not that I recall. Has been kinda long ago.
It isn't so strange really, since it isn't really a RPG. Even Origin
admit it is very much of a RPG, maybe more of a action/adventure/arcade
with a little RPG element. But dispite the name, general concensus it
isn't a RPG.

Unfortunately, there is no map in U8. You're best to get out that old pen
and paper...or download the maps off the net somewhere. Indeed, it was
strange to not have a map in this so called "RPG". Even Zelda for the NES
had a map! But Ultima 8 was nevertheless really fun to play (imho).

I think the reason there isn't a map is because the original game >came<
with a map that pretty much showed everything. There is probably a .pdf
map on the cd that came with the game, else you can download the game map
from various sites on the web.

Patrick, your reason is entirely false. Have you played Ultima 8? The
original cloth map that came with the game is entirely useless. As well,
there is no .pdf file on the original CD that has a map, other than the
Ultima Collection (and perhaps the classic CD). Even Ultima 7 had both an
in-game map and a cloth/paper map!

Otherwise, Prima's Ultima Collection has pretty good screen layouts of the
U8....but nothing beats drawing of one's own maps.

Look, this is silly. He asked why there wasn't a map with U8, I said there
was. As to it's utility, that wasn't the point. (And yes, I have played
U8, the day it came out, without the patch. I even made it to the end
where the game froze on me (fixed in the patched version) and raged
against the computer the entire time.)

I suppose there wasn't an ingame map because the world was so small. Btw:
Nothing does beat ones own maps, because there is something concrete about
them once you finish the game.
