All this talk about Fallout, made me blow the dust of Fallout 2 and move out
in the wasteland again. One thing that puzzle me a bit is when you stumble
by traders (slave caravans) and as I'm supposed to be a good guy I kill of
the slavers. However, the slaves stand there screaming "Help, free us" or
something. Is there anything you have to do to free them? Or just kill the
slavers and leave the (ex)slaves to their own fate?

IIRC I sneaked my way past the guys in the room, and out in the pens where I
was discovered when a three-day old donut crunched under my Iridium enhanced
Dr.M's. The ensuing fight was fierce and chaotic but I prevailed, and it was
then a minor issue to free the slaves.

eh, no.. I didn't mean Metzinger in the DEN, and the slavers guild. But wen
you travel the wasteland you can encounter trade(slave) caravans. If you
kill the caravan master and the guards the slaves yell's "help, free us" or
something like that. Is it something you have to do, or just leave them to
their own fate and just leave.

It's been a while since I played, but there are consoles that you need to
work inside the pens I believe. You need to have a high enough "Science"
skill to work them, IIRC. Did you make it back into where the cages are?

ooohhh..those slaves :-)

Nah, they aren't up to anything besides drying themselves out in the
desert...wouldn't worry 'bout them too much. Boorish people anyways, not for
overly insightful conversation.

Yeah, and you encounter these at random when traveling the wasteland? I
didn't talk about Metzinger at the DEN or the slavers in the NCR.

hehe, I found it easy to use steal skill and plant weapons on them though,
for so make the caravan guards hit them while yourself hide behid them, then
the slaves would fight for you and armed as well :) Just steal back the
weapon when the fight is over, works ok enough when you are weak (from the
start of the game)

My method was to go there alone at night and thump one
of the outside slavers, then run away as they came out
after me. I escaped to the other area before I ran
out of hit points, and then I healed. I kept going
back, and escaping before runing out of hit points.
(Most of them were lucky to hit me one time out of
six at night.) Soon they were out of ammo (heh heh heh).

Every time I entered the area, all the slavers started
back at their posts. The exception was the main baddie.
After he followed me to the edge and I escaped, I came
back to find him all alone (heh heh heh).

Ehm,, it wasn't about the slavers in the DEN though. But why didn't you
steal their ammo? and steal Metzingers shootgun :)

Better late than never...

I don't believe there is anything you can do about the slaves in the
wasteland, except to leave them alone after killing the slavers. IIRC,
killing the slavers will raise your karma, while killing the slaves will
lower it. Killing out-and-out slavers definitely raises your karma, killing
slaves definitely lowers it, and I'm not entirely certain about the
slave-owning merchants.

Hope this helps.
