Hi to everyone playing Stonkeep!!

I am actually on the first level of the Tower of Khull Khumm
(spelling?), but I have heard rumours of a shadow sword in the palace
of shadows which is useful against monsters later in the game. Does
this sword exist and is it useful? I have savegames I can go back to
in order to get this sword. Could someone give me a hint at to where
it is? (I also have a shard of glass; what is this for?).

Thanks y'all!!!

Eric

The shadow weapon is located in two pieces - a handle and a forge. Take
the handle to the forge and it morphs between all of the melee (hand to
hand) weapon types. Pick the weapon type you are most skilled in.
(Although I would recommend a weapon that has a single -higher- damage
type.) The handle you can pick up and take with you, the forge you
cannot. Both are located in the southernmost area of the Palace of
Shadows (mirrored, of course). There are several secret entrances to each
and mirror gates connecting them to each other. They are located in the
farthest south area of the Palace surrounded by corridors. If you fully
explored the non-hidden areas, the hallways will look like donuts missing
a center. The hilt and anvil are located in the 'centers'. I seem to
remember that the entrance to the section was in the part that was the
most inconvenient to get to, but maybe I am wrong. Both areas are filled
with flying skulls that can really mess up your party so be ready for a
fight. Things die pretty easily with the weapon, in sword or dagger mode,
the weapon did over 100 damage in a single category, and in other weapons
it did about 70 damage in two areas. Since most monsters have very high
armor, I would recommend the 100 damage in a single category, but it
probably doesn't make too much difference.

P.S. - pick up all skulls of thing you have killed or they will come alive
again

P.P.S. - weapon -vs - armor consideration

Armor Weapon Damage Done
0-0-0 70-70-0
140 hits of damage (70+70)
50-50-50 70-70-0 40
hits of damage ( (70-50) + (70-50))
0-0-0 100-0-0
100 hits of damage (100)
50-50-50 100-0-0 50
hits of damage (100-50)
70-70-70 70-70-70 0
hits of damage ((70-70) + (70-70))
70-70-70 100-0-0 30
hits of damage (100-70)

Weapons that split damage across multiple armor types does better against
opponents with low armor values, while weapons that did maximum damage in
a single category do better against foes with high armor. Since monsters
at the end have ludicrously high armor, I would recommend the shadow
weapon morphed to a weapon that does the most damage in a single area even
if it's maximum damage against low-armor foes is less. But, my estimate
of the high-level armor being about 50-60 for oppents (an maxed out
parties) their isn't much of a difference between weapons. But it can be
of interest earlier in the game when choosing weapons. Incidently, I
think most opponents are less resistant to piercing damage than other
types, especially earlier, and this is one reason that arrows and throwing
daggers are so effective. I morphed the shadow weapon into a dagger and
went toe-to-toe with Khull Khumm and killed him the first time (I was
pretty maxed out with every cheat/hint mentioned on this list). By the
way, giving party/Drake super-strength is a great way to increase the
amount of damage he does.

Another issue to consider in choosing which Shadow weapon you want is that the
dagger and (I think) the hammer are both single-handed weapons, so you can hold
your runestaff, too.

in the southern sections, in the long room with pillar-like
things in the center (shaped as follows, more or less)

-------------------
% | % are illusionary walls
| --- --- --- --- --- x is an "ancient relic"
| | | | | | | % % |
| --- --- --- | | ---
| |x| |
|------------------

in the southwest it looks like this, with the ancient relic
lying on the floor and a plaque to read north of it... in
the southeast is the mirror image, and a place to put this
ancient relic... the weapon cycles through various weapons
I heard someone got a sword, I got an one-handed axe (and
hadn't saved recently even if I had realized what was happening)
though it was a 2-handed (battle?) when I started reaching for
it... needless to say, Drake is now working on his axe skill
instead of sword :) I tried giving the weapon to Farli,
but he can only attack monsters on his side of the party,
limiting his usefulness... plus, he's slower on the attack
than I am with Drake... about the time I find myself using
the staves instead of a weapon I'll toss it to Farli for
awhile.... but I *do* wish I had gotten the 2-handed :)

You can "recycle" the weapon of shadow, even after you've formed it.
Just take your weapon and put it back into the shadow-o-matic. I
originally grabbed a warhammer to crush the skeletons, then later I
changed it to a sword.
