Daggerfall (Stealing Bug?)

I was in an armor shop and saw some nice mail I wanted to lift. I cast
invisibility on myself, took it, failed and heard the guards comming after
me. I managed to sneak past them and out ,but when I looked the goods were
not in my inventory! Do you automaticly loose stolen goods when the guards
beam in ?

Better to come back at night, and use the OPEN spell to open
shop's door. Simply unload whole shelf onto your wagon, leave, come
back in again, shelf restocked.... do it until your wagon is full.
Now, that's stealing big time... no chance to be caught btw.

Step 1. Find a nice inn and get a room for a few nights. Strip to your
undies (so you can carry more stuff).
Step 2. Sleep till right before the shop you wish to burgle closes.
(For example I steal from the <something> blades weapon
store in Daggerfall quite often . It closes at 20:00 , I
I get there between 19:00 and 20:00)
Pick a store with high quality goods. Always steal from the best.
Step 3. Walk to the store right before closing time. Enter.
Step 4. Loiter till the store is closed. (No Open spell needed)
Step 5. Strip the shelves bare. Put in Wagon (You did bring your
wagon into the store on your burglary didn't you :)
I have found that you can't click on a shelf, load the
goods on your character then click on the wagon and load
it. You have to leave the inventory screen and go back
before you can load the wagon.
... Ok that all pretty much the same. Here is the new wrinkle
Step 6. Save the game. Reload the game.
Viola the shelves are full again. Repeat till the wagon is
extremly overloaded. (I've heard wagons can go as high
as 2200 pds maybe higher.)

Step 7. Leave. Wait till some other crummier store opens. Sell
your goods and enjoy your illgotten gains.

BTW. What good is a ship anyway. I bought the most expensive
and I don't know what to do with it.

Great...now...how do I steal books from the bookstores? It doesn't let
me do that, even though there is nobody home!!!
