IIRC, in MM6, potions this strong always had some drawback associated.
Is this the case in MM7? Is this thing safe to drink?

Maybe.. Unless he found out ten levels later that drinking black
potions made you unable to complete the "Quest of the FooFoo"..
Ok, so it doesn't exist.. But it was still a good question. I wondered
the same thing.
I have noticed that once a character has drunk a black potion, he may
not drink another of the same type.

Good to hear, that makes black potions a bit less unbalancing.
I still think that +50 attribute points is WAY too many just for
gulping a single potion, especially since magic items usually only
give +5 or +10 and barrels only +2 once.

Nah. By the time you get black potions (either with GM Alchemy or through
purchases), the +50 isn't all that useful. Nice, yes. Unbalancing, nah.
Well, I'm not quite that far yet. I found this one in a chest. The
chest is tucked away where it can't be reached too early in the game,
however.

Well, I did that, and I didn't see any problems, but I wanted to be
sure there weren't any hidden effects. +50 Might seems like such a
large boost that I found it hard to believe there weren't any side
effects. From the posts on this thread, however, looks like there's
no problem! Thanks to everybody who responded.
The black potions don't unbalance the game. The further I go, and the
more powerful I get, the more my party gets wasted.
Today I thought I could take on the "Queen of the Dead". She zapped me
with something that wiped out my entire party before I could even start
turn-based mode.

That character was extraordinarily annoying. I had to use realtime and
Descent strategy to beat her (hide behind pillar, sneak out, run back as
hellfire comes toward me, then run out, turn, fire everything, and hide
before it hit again). It really didn't help that she casts Pain
Reflection, either.
What is it that the Queen of the Dead and the Lich King shoot that is
instant death for everyone, anyhow? Dragon breath?
Unfortunately, the area I'm in features 2 or 3 Queens of the dead, and
none of them want to play "pop behind the pillar". Stupid wine
cellar... Why'd I have to go in there anyway..
I was able to lure some of them out and get them stuck on the staircase
(where I could zap them at leisure), but the last 2 or 3 are in a back
room and won't come out. I guess I will have to complete that area
later..

The vampire elder wasn't nice either. The Speaker for the Dead seemed
to cast pain reflection more than the Queen. I don't really like
either one of them, but it is nice to see monsters using the same spells
I have. I wonder if the monsters have unlimited mana like in MM6..

I dunno, but it's not nice.

I think so, at least I've never seen a spellcasting monster stop
spellcasting for as long as both them and my party were alive (which
admittedly wasn't long in most cases, one way or the other...).

Master Identify Monster will tell you what it is. I think Queens of
the Dead have Dragon Breath and Pain Reflection. Lich King might have
been Shrapmetal. They don't have a real instadeath spell like the
Minotaur Lords have, though.
He shoots a level 12 Master Dragon Breath (30% of the time)
and he casts level 12 Master Pain Reflection (50% of the time).
Oh yes, and his attack bonus is Agex3. Better find some of those
rejuventation potions.
As for the Queen of the Dead, she shoots the same stuff but at level 10.
Her special is summon Ghost.

Hmmm. Took me 2 or 3 tries but I had no problems other than a
tough tough fight. Sparks seems to work pretty good.

The first time I encountered one, it was usually my cleric or sorcerer
who got instantly toasted. Once, she cast what appeared to be Toxic
Cloud and since my magic users had fewer than 80 HP each at the time,
it would be enough to kill them instantly. When I tried to melee with
her, I experienced Pain Reflection first hand.
Luckily, after dying many times, I was able to obtain a wand of
Paralysis that worked amazingly well.
