- Is the environment detailed, or just a lot of pictures
embedded in narrow paths ?

Fuck off troll.
Seriously, you will hate it because you can't set up your mouse driven
movement scheme.
Please, define non-Euro magic.
As I thought. Thanks.
johns
There's no such thing. I've been all over Europe,
and "gothic magic" is a part of their culture.
You can't walk through the woods without running
into adventure game stations for the kids to play.
In the States, all the kids are Cowboys and Indians.
We want to play our "reality" movie games and
see moose, bear, buffalo, wolves ... it's our
environment ... and our culture.
johns
So, no shamanic magic in your culture?
>

That would be 'English'.
Heck I live in Europe and yet have to see such a thing :-)
All which is in our woods is woods, animals, tourists and mushrooms,
and depending on the area where you live some nasty leftovers from the
last 1-2 wars and of course also some roman leftovers like walls etc.
and castles.
I think johns is having another one of his psychotic breaks from reality.
That concept does not exist outside your own mind.
> - Is the keybe fk'd up, or can I change it ?
It used a QWERTY keyboard. BTW the word "keybe" doesn't exist outside
your own mind.
> - Is the dialog stilted British ?
It has English dialogue. The British language doesn't exist outside
your own mind.
> - Is there a theme, or is it just kid stuff ?
A theme? Do you mean a story? At any rate it's not just kid stuff so
it'll be beyond your mental capacity.
There are areas in the various zones where you can roam freely, but
anyplace where the action is you are stuck to a path.
> - Is it loaded with Euro-magic and just no reality at all ?
Not sure what you mean by that. Mostly you cut your enemies up with a
sword, LOL. There's magic, of course.
>
> - Is the keybe fk'd up, or can I change it ?
I have no idea what you mean by that.
>
> - Is the dialog stilted British ?
No. Yes. Depends.
>
> - Is there a theme, or is it just kid stuff ?
There is a very deep story that unfolds as you play. It's not a kid's
game - unless the kid is pretty mature. It's not Hello Kitty Island,
that's for sure. The fighting is pretty grim and gory.
I use my mouse a lot. I hit W to move forward and steer with the mouse.
That's not what johns wants. Look back at some of his postings about
other games' movement controls.
And Lars von Trier shooting a movie - interestingly enough, usually set in
the USA :^D

Here in Italy you, literally, need only to throw a stone to find one of
these. Recently in Milan they started working on *THE* new underground
parking lot for the downtown area, and they found *THE* local Roman Imperial
Palace Ruins. Archeologists are happy, the workers aren't.
Wasn't he suffering from psychotic breaks *into* reality?
BTW, it is worth remembering how "Euro-gothic magic" (if such a thing exists
at all) was imported into NA along with all the other Euro-things. The Salem
witch huntes are a good example of this.
Not outside of the "Indian Lands" court cases.
The Feds have tried to step back and let the
Indian tribes be more self-directed from within.
And we know better than to step on their
religion and culture. It is not appreciated one
bit. It is in our movies, but again the Indian
culture must be treated with respect. About
the closest thing to Shamanism there, is
the Catholic Church which is somewhat
permissive in allowing Indian beliefs in
the Church. Again, you don't go there !
johns
Spend a couple of days on your inlines and do the
run from Paris to the coast of France. That's all you'll
see is old Gothic culture ... and adventure games
in the woods around the old castles. I saw it a lot
in Germany around the sports hostels in the summer
.... that is if you didn't spend all your nights drinking
beer and listening to the drum bands ( not bad either ).
johns
john's mental capacity doesn't exist - inside or outside his own mind.

Yeah, buy a bigger display....
John Lewis
I'd guess by his other posts the European equivalent of Civil War
recreationists, or SCA. No that still doesn't make sense, I'm not
entirely sure, but maybe he means Druids or Wiccans or something. He
must not be from around here in the USofA. In Cali we've got all
sorts of odd cults. Like Scientologists. Oh wait, they've got them
there too.
I'm surprised they let him out of his secret underground lab. Naw I'm
sure they didn't he must have seen one of those 'ghost' shows through
the bars playing in the guard room.

b-e which would include f on a qwerty keyboard I'd guess. This is
kinda fun :)

Maybe he means "Is Patric Stewart reading lines off a sheet that just
got put in front of him on the first take like in Oblivion"
I'd like the answer to that one anyway :)

I am not entirely getting it what you mean.
If you mean old Gothic culture, you can find Celtic references in the
woods all over western europe, if you mean
with Gotic culture the romans yes you can find references also the
romans were all over Western europe and left buildings left and right
you just have to start digging.
Not sure what you mean with adventure games.
Adventure games, not that I know of, there are some summer
Knight festivals for children and tourists, but thats pretty much it,
and the Goth Kids if you mean that that already is in decline used to
be some youth subculture and still is but as I said it is in decline and
never was that big either.
If you mean ghost stories and old tales connected to the areas, you can
find that here as well, have in mind people have been living here for
thousands of years and everyone left his footprint, but those things are
mostly told to children and tourists of course, many people dont give a
shit about them anymore.

Sorry that I spend all my time living here summer and winter and I have
not noticed anything unusual in our woods. (Heck I even work there quite
often) We probably even have less whackos in our Woods than you can find
in the states...
We have them too but they are not a mass movement nor are they
really part of our culture, the socalled self proclaimed Druids here
dont even have a remote clue what the original Druid cult was about
(They should read the roman references and then they probably would stop
practicing it instantly).
They simply mix in their personal believes in connection to nature with
what they think the Druids were (without really knowing it)
You can count those people on one hand per european country California
alone probably has more of them than all western europe alone.

I was waiting for the sorceress in thigh highs to show up. Luckily I was not
disappointed :o)
I'm not arguing here but this comment really surprises me because I've
seen it's reference before.
I thought NWN II was appalling graphics wise. The character models were
so... bad that they were actually noticeable for me.
By comparison I think DA:O is pretty damn good.
My only complaint is the way the arms hang on some of the characters.
Especially Morrigan, skinny arms with the elbows permanently held out
from the main torso as if she were a body builder flexing his chest or
something.
Hopefully an extremely skilled modder will fix this at some stage.
Ceo-
The body models and how they move are GREAT in DA:O compared to most,
perhaps all, other RPGs. Compare to Risen (or the earlier Gothics)
where the bodies look just off somehow. It was bad enough in Risen that
I found it creepy. And the way they move when you are talking and such
is just weird. In DA:O the people move in a much more natural way and
actually turn to look at who is speaking and such.
Now they still haven't solved the "equipment piercing the body as they
move" problem (good armor looks very painful to wear) and the skins look
too much like, well, skins and not real belts, clothing, jewelry and such.
Oh no doubt about it, the models are good in most cases and attack
animations and "at ease" ones all look relatively natural.
It's just those arms that annoy me. No person on the planet holds arms
THAT skinny with their elbows THAT far away from their body at rest :p
As for the skins and so on I agree, but Bioware is unique in that their
toolset is complete and thorough and already in the communities hands.
This game is made for modding.
Consider that it's a good damn game to begin with, plus this. This game
is going to be with us for a very long time ala BG 2 I think
Ceo-
That pose probably just compensates for when a character is wearing
armor or a robe. I don't think the "at rest" arm position changes if
they are wearing nothing or full gear. Just looks funny on Morrigan
with her skimpy robe. Put a traditional robe on her and she'll look
fine. No more elbows poking out, but other things won't poke out
either.

It was an obvious typo. Johns meant to write keybd.

Noman
Oh LORD first thing I do is put some real clothes on her. That original
"robe" does NOT flatter her. If she actually had something to fill it
out it would be different, but...
Gentlemen: Please tell me that you men can see that she is too thin.
Indeed. She definitely is no cook, and neither is Flemeth.

Lars Haugseth
I didn't notice about elbows and stuff. I do like Duncan, but he has too
many clothes on and no other things poking out. ;-)
What I really hate are the hands. The women look like they should be
playing in the NBA. Large hands must be useful for something, I would
imagine.
D.
Large gloves?
