Hi,

I'm wondering if I'm ever going go attain Light mastery. I did something
bad for my reputation very early in the game (get the candelabra) and
sold one bone inadvertently, bought my way up to "respectable". Now I have
2000+ fame and I'm "honorable", around L40, and still how many rep
categories to go? 3? 4? I don't know. How far do I have to go? Is there a
good way to increase reputation? Until now, I only did one council quest,
the one for Loretta Fleise. Do the other council quests help my reputation
more than the "normal" quests?

Completing the council quest took me from "honourable" to "glorious". I
think there's only one step beyond that - saintly.

Don't worry: there are only three more to go, viz:

Glorious
Angelic
Saintly

NB: Loretta's council quest lowers your rep! I believe other council
quests do help a lot. I'm at a similar level to you, but have done
most of the promotion quests and most of the "easy" council quests. Got
to
saintly very easily - didn't even have to hire a bard.

Right after exposing the traitor on the Council, my reputation was
"Angelic".

You name it, we kill it, any time, any reality.

I really did it - but I still don't know how I got my reputation
increased by two levels in a single day. Maybe it was the ankh "quest",
the high priest quest and the search for the Prince of the Thieves, which
I finished in rapid succession because they were easy at
L40. Unfortunately, it was Friday. Five days to go to the next ship to
Northern Isle. I noticed that your rep deteriorates very quickly if you
rest, but not if you travel!!! So I teleported to NS, took 2 days to
Ironfist, 1 day to Arena, teleported to NS again, 2 days to Ironfist again,
teleported to Silver Cove, picked up the Bard, a few days to Northern
Isle, and lo, nearly 10 days gone with no reputation decrease.

Now came the fun part: I decided not to risk this awkward procedure for
Dark Mastery again. So I talked to the Dark Expert in Whitecap about his
teacher, which is in Paradise Valley. I beacon to Kriegspire and fly to
the border to avoid any trouble. After travelling first to Sweet Water SE
corner and then to Paradise Valley, I went flying over the marauding Titans
and managed to set a beacon right in the center of the town and to
teleport away again just before my hitpoints ran out. Teleporting there
and back if necessary, I managed to locate the Master of Dark Magic and
set a beacon right in front of his door!! So, when the time comes to
attain Dark Mastery, it'll take me just a minute!!

Just for the information value, I had a little fight with a titan, but no
luck - they're still too tough.

Sorry for the rambling, I got carried away

Actually there are two steps from glorious to saintly with angelic in the
middle.I haven't done the traitor quest yet and am saintly for the moment.
