I'm playing Wizardry 7 for a few weeks now and I'm stuck at the
moment.
I arrived at Dane Tower level 6, "survived" the 4 fire spewing
grates (cheated), pulled the lever opposite the last grate, opened the
Chrome Door, had a fight and found the Book of Immortals.
However, there,s another chest which must be containing the Gold Idol
for this level, but I don't know to open the grate althought a
solution file only mentioned of pulling the earlier mentioned lever.
The message at the door reads:
" Upon the gate is a gruesome head,
cast in black iron,
Appearing like some hideous
creature of the netherworld.
Atop the forehead of the
demonic face is a round opening,
as if perhaps to berth a thick candle.
Etc. "
So maybe something must be used inside this opening, but none of my
partymembers carries anything which fits.
Problably I threw it away or didn't find it yet.
If anyone know how to open this grate, please let me know...
Thanks in advance
Greetings
Ellen Muller
Further up in the tower, you will (or have) fight a demon, and upon beating
him will get a demon's horn. Put the horn in the hole in the gate. There are
three gates, and you may have to insert it in all three.

The golden idol for this level is located in a chest in the
south-central portion of this level, reachable by stepping on the
squares that trigger walls to disappear. (the chest is one square
diagonally from the stairs you entered this level on) Keep wandering
back and forth through the area where the walls keep popping in and
out, especially all of the 1x1 rooms in this south-central area, and
you'll open up the room that contains this chest. Using this idol at
the altar will open up the gate directly to the south, which will then
lead you to the place where the item you need for the gate mentioned
below is found (well, not found so much as won :-)).

Once you find the idol for this level, and open the way to the
Pit of the Demonspawn level above, you'll be on your way to winning
what you need to open this gate...(it helps to remember the ending
sequence of the movie Conan the Destroyer...;-)).

Yupp, I think I do remember this one, and I'd say that I don't
remember it a the two other lads answering you. So I guess I'll give
it a try ;-)
I thought that I should use the corn of the deamon spawn to open this
door but ... no use. Finally I found it ... the secret wall ... So
don't bother too much with opening the door instead search the walls
in nearby rooms.

Hmmm...If you're referring to the secret wall (activated by button)
that is found in the southern most section of the "orgy pit," pressing
this will only get you to the northern part of the demon head gate. The
Cornu of DemonSpawn will still be needed to fit into the circular opening
of the gate in order to gain access to the chest within.
Since there are three sections of this gate (east, west, and north),
and I'm not completely sure as to whether the Cornu works on all three as
I only access the chest from the northern gate via the secret wall that you
mention, I can't state that the demon horn works at all three locations.
But it does at the northern gate...;-) (Either that or I've completely lost
the rest of my marbles...I only passed through this part of the game two
days ago. :-))
P.S.: The inability of using the Cornu of Demonspawn to open the gate that
you mention might be due to trying to use it at one of the gates where it
doesn't work. I have heard that the horn doesn't work at all gates, even
though they appear the same...But, as I said, I only use the north gate, so
I can't verify this...

Yupp, that might be it. The thing I do remember is that I tried the
cornu and got very supprised that it did not work (on the first door)
Nope! The Golden Idol lies elsewhere on this level.
What lies in the coofer is the Coil of the Serpent which will grant ye access
to the Dragon Mountains andthrough it to the City of Sky

The object that will open the grate is the Cornu of Demonspawn which ye may
only find after having killed the Demon ye invoked in the Pit of Demonspawn
as instructed by the Book of Immortals.

But first of all ye must meet the Magna Dane, then go kill the DemonSpawn.
Then go back to Magna Dane (the bitch will try to kill ye and get the Cornu)
then enter his 'throne room' (the room from which ye took a barrage of fire
when ye tried to reach the chrome door) and from the grate that is inside ye
may check the coofer. (there are 3 such grates but only this one will open)
NB : If ye have not yet ventured in the open sea, i would say ye've done 60%
of the game ;)
