BG: Replacing Khalid

I think Khalid sucks so far. Who'd be a good replacement for him? I've met
Safana, Kagain, Aj<something>, Sharteel and Kivan. But won't Jaheira leave
too if I ditch Khalid? Thanks for any suggestions. The others with me are
Imoen, Dynaheir and Minsc (and Boo!). We're all level 4s and I'm a human
fighter.

he's still in my party, and isn't too bad IMHO.

I think not if you do the nasty thing - have him "accidentally" killed
and dump him from your party after that. if you're playing an evil
character that would probably suit you anyway :)
I could never do that...besides, i kind of like his comments. "even
with infravision I prefer the daylight".

my party currently consist of myself as a true neutral necromancer,
Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Branwen and Kivian.

Kivan was pretty decent. A nice Archer/ranger/figher guy.
Basically to break up the pair, you need to kill one of them off.
i.e. send them into combat with bare fists...
Then you can substitute someone new.

and Coran, he's my favorite NPC in the game. I think if you simply drop
Khalid, Jahiera will bitch but won't leave of her own accord.

Hm, I was trying to solve the other problem-- how to ditch Jaheira without
losing Khalid.
I'm not sure what the fascination with Jaheira is. She can't wear fighter
armor, she can't use fighter weapons, so all you get is an extra couple
of proficiencies and half a hitpoint a level for the cost of halving all
your experience... :-/
I wound up dropping them both, and picking up Branwen. I'm still looking for
a decent non-evil fighter type; I'm not sure I trust Kagain...

I know that if you dump Jahiera she'll pull Khalid along by his ear and they
both leave. Save your game, dump him and see what happens. Restore it if
it's not to your liking. The only good thing about Jahiera is she gets cure
serious wounds twice at 8th level.

Easy. Take all the stuff off Jaheira first and then sent her alone in
a fight. I did that ;-) to get Branwen to join my party.

Well, I agree with you. I kept him until I got to Minsc and then
replaced him and Jaheira with Minsc and Branwen. But ... since you
already have Boo, Ajantis (paladin) might be a good choice. Kaigan
would be good if your party will get along with an evil character. If
your rep gets too high, he'll leave. Shar-Teel is also evil and has
good STR but not so good CON.
As others have said, you can ditch Khalid and keep Jaheira if you get
Khalid killed. But I refuse to do that since it's too "gamey". (If I
had programmed the game, I would've had the partner of a couple NPC
leave your party to mourn his/her death if you dumped him/her from the
party. But, that's just me. :) You can use Branwen or Viconia (evil)
to replace Jaheira.

Well, I'm not overly fond of Jaheira but I like her a lot better than
Khalid. Also, druids can't wear armor, but fighter/druids can because
I had heavier armors on her.

Ajantis isn't bad. Only 17 STR, but he's a paladin. Don't get much
more trustworthy than that. :)

That's right, Jeheira is pretty hot for an elf. I didn't deliberately
get him killed, though, I needed someone on point and he was the
junior man. Shit happens.

It was the first time I heard "better part of valor! better part of
valor" that I decided to put him on point.

I replaced Khalid & Jhaeira (sp?) with Ajantis (Paladin, Ankheg
farm map), then Yeslick (Dwarven Fighter/Cleric from the Chapter
4 mines). Jhaeira's reputation-triggered leadership griping started
to stifle my enjoyment of the game, and Khalid, while funny at first,
just doesn't have the personality for a fighter. :)
